DD and I did our now annual draw.

I got:

Adam
Ellie
Jodie
Layton
Les
Nigel
Nikita
Zara

We threw in a blank slip as well, to make an even number. DD drew the short straw there.

What is your draw for? Just about who will win??

Taytocrisps · 25/09/2023 22:15

Yes, the loser will treat us both to a take away.

SequinsandStiIettos · 25/09/2023 22:28

I think your odds are high there, unless Annabel is the dark horse.
Nigel, Layton, Ellie are going to do well. Your partner's relying on Amanda or bookie's earlier favourite Bobby to bring it home.
I'm not sure Dianne has what it takes and I'm fearful that Amanda might struggle towards the end. Smart money - and your takeaway - has to be on Nigel.

My DH (he who can never remember any of their names) has confidently predicted a win for "the young fellow" and he's usually right.
Goodness knows why.
He knows absolutely nothing about dancing.

MouseMinge · 26/09/2023 00:45

Neither does the young guy, so he may be on to something.

SequinsandStiIettos · 26/09/2023 07:27

It isn't that , he's there to learn after all. Jeff's tears, proposed dance to honour Jade, cute looks and maternal "such a nice boy" appeal fit part of the demographic who vote. But...the height discrepancy isn't good and I don't like Dianne's choreo that much. Plus comments like "She's going to know my children/be aunty to them" and "he's like a younger brother already" is giving me the ick (not their fault, they have to proclaim how much they get on like the other couples while emphasising no curse here, so as not to isolate Joe fans).

Lentilweaver · 26/09/2023 07:45

Dianne's choreo always involves a lot of rolling about on the floor, and no teaching her celeb basic steps. I still have PTSD from her horrible Simpsons' dance with Max George.
I used to read Marianka Swain's fabulous column in Dancing Times to educate myself about dance- sadly gone now-and she said once that Strictly really needs to stop recruiting from Burn The Floor, and recruit pros with more experience.

Ellmau · 26/09/2023 07:49

He looks like a winner, but his actual dancing last week wasn't very good and seriously overmarked. OK, week 1, but Dianne is a handicap.

My current predictions for the final are Bobby, Layton, Nigel and one out of Angela S, Ellie and Amanda.

Les ought to be first out, but being boring can also get you gone early so Nikita and Zara aren't totally safe, and maybe Adam.

autienotnaughty · 26/09/2023 08:01

Were the results on on Sunday? I can't get them on catch up? And if I google I'll get the result .

No one was eliminated this weekend, everyone stays for the first two dances. Hence no results show.

MotherOfGodWeeFella · 26/09/2023 08:04

No one goes in week one. Next week is the first public vote and dance off.

#byebyeLes unless there's a big improvement

Whenwillglorioussummercome · 26/09/2023 08:06

I reckon Les has more chance of staying in as he’ll get people voting for him as they know him and think it’s funny to see someone so bad. Agree that younger, less known and fairly dull dancers are far more vulnerable to lack of votes.

autienotnaughty · 26/09/2023 08:08

@EvilRingahBitch thanks I totally forgot

autienotnaughty · 26/09/2023 08:10

Yes agree Les is the likely candidate. Both Angela's were impressive as was Ellie and Nigel

Riverlee · 26/09/2023 08:19

My predictions for first off is Krish or Eddie, pure and simple as there is always the annual racism row.(in reality, I don’t think it will be these,)

HeadAgainstWall0923 · 26/09/2023 08:19

I’m not up to date with all the contestants names but I thought the woman who was partnered up with Gorka looked very uncomfortable. The dance just looked a bit stilted and Craig made a comment about it looking like Gorka was just dragging her around the dance floor rather than her dancing with him and I absolutely agreed.

Lentilweaver · 26/09/2023 08:21

@HeadAgainstWall0923 She is SlebNikita. To distinguish her from ProNikita. I agree; she is likely to be first voted off. Not popular enough.

xsquared · 26/09/2023 08:22

I don't know much about Bobby other than he is Jade Goody's son, he's a model amd he's been on Eastenders.

His dance was a bit too twee for me and the height discrepancy between him and Dianne made it look more cumbersome. He seems like a nice young man.

However, can anyone explain why there is so much hype about him at this point and that he's already being predicted as finalist material? Nothing in his dancing and partnership suggests that, but I'm hoping I'll see him improve as the weeks go by.

I rarely find myself confusing her with Prokita for obvious reasons, but I can't really distinguish her from Zara unless they're standing next to each other. I'm sure if I concentrated I could do it, but I don't think it'll be worth the investment of time - the problem will go away in a couple of weeks.

Lentilweaver · 26/09/2023 08:28

@xsquared because voters tend to like a sleb with a journey, and not one who starts off good right away? Also one who appears sweet and kind? ( Not me, I always vote for the arrogant tossers).

Most of them will be on a journey and most of them are likeable, at least for now anyway.

I guess what I'm really asking is. What is the hype about him? Or will he be another Hamza like contestant? Relatively unknown but sweet, therefore capturing viewer's hearts.

HeadAgainstWall0923 · 26/09/2023 09:47

What I remember about Jade’s death is that it was so upsetting for me from the moment she was told she had cancer right up until she died. I do believe she died quite quickly too?

It was all over the TV as she filmed numerous programmes and documentaries about her diagnosis and quick progression in order to raise awareness of cervical cancer.

I remember feeling like the whole country had come to a standstill as her story was very publicised and it was like watching a nightmare unfold. I remember it feeling so unreal to me in a case of, “god, this woman was so bubbly and free-spirited and now here she is dying on our screens at such a young age.”

As I watched her further decline, the fact she had two very young sons who would soon be left without a mother made it to me even more upsetting. I think it touched a lot of people’s hearts.

I watched the documentary about her wedding which she had very shortly before her death and it was so hard to watch. She looked so incredibly ill.

I do believe that cervical screening rates absolutely rocketed after her death which is what I think she had always been aiming for as to the reason she publicly aired her journey so at least she got her wish at the end.

I do not remember anything of Bobby or Freddie (her other son) until Bobby started in Eastenders so I do believe after their mother’s death they were kept out the spotlight, though I may be wrong about that.

I think for young children to lose their mother in such sad circumstances, and for her death to also be one that affected a good portion of the nation is what makes people feel so warm towards Bobby.

At the time it reminded me of Diana’s death and William and Harry losing their mother at such a young age.

Jade’s diagnosis, quick deterioration and death was quite upsetting for many people and like I said, the thought of two young children losing their mother in such an awful way made it seem even worse.

I think a lot of the voters will be of an age where they remember it all being played out and will simply think that Bobby is an amazing man to have coped with what he did and also achieve well.

I read an article recently where Bobby said he barely had any memories of his mum because of how young he was when she died, but most of the nation who are now in their 30’s-40’s (and above) remember her very well and recall what she went though and I think a lot of them will automatically feel a maternal warmth towards Bobby and therefore vote for him.
