If you're 40+ and you want a huge dose of nostalgia, this is such a winner. Fantastic clips of the Nanas knocking out all the hits on Cheggers Plays Pop, Wogan and Pebble Mill, miming spasmodically and performing dance routines that are less 'choreography' and more the sort of low key aerobics routines you could do with a fag on the go at the same time.

Also features Siobhan telling a clueless Mike Smith that the secret to their hair stack hairstyles is 'all in the wrist action'.

Thanks so much. I needed some nostalgia and fun this absolutely hit the nail on the head. I've ordered a cd too for my kitchen disco.

SleepingisanArt · 02/09/2023 23:01

And of course Bruno Tolioni prancing about in the background 😂

Really enjoyed singing along (home alone so no one to call the RSPCA about a cat being strangled!) I was a teenager in the 80s so my CD collection reflects that!

AutumnCrow · 02/09/2023 23:02

Beautiful hair ^^

Kim Wilde's was great, too.

Anyone remember sugar water?

ThePoshUns · 02/09/2023 23:18

I watched and enjoyed.
I loved them back in the day. Sarah was the one I tried to copy the most.

GellerYeller · 03/09/2023 00:18

Loved this. Was surprised to be reminded I had owned many similar outfits. It was like a trip through my wardrobe of the 80s and early 90s! So many great songs too. Ruddy brilliant as Smash Hits would say.

the80sweregreat · 03/09/2023 07:03

Missed it, but I did love the Bananas.

Riverlee · 03/09/2023 07:38

Didn’t really listen to their music back in the day.

However, saw them live in an 80s concert last year and they were probably the best act of the night, and much better than the headline act. They definitely still have it.

shiningcuckoo · 03/09/2023 08:07

It's a brilliant programme. Loved seeing Fun Boy Three too. I bet the Nanas had aright laugh back in the day - I love Jennifer Saunders' story of first meeting them, drunk and falling backwards out of a taxi.

the80sweregreat · 03/09/2023 08:37

Compared to the very polished girl groups of the 90s , it was nice that Bananrama were just themselves.

My hair dresser recommended KY Jelly but that was in the late 70s before Hair Gel was a thing.

Seeline · 03/09/2023 08:47

I watched it with my 19yo DD who loves the 80s. Brought back great memories! Yes to the relaxed choreography - DD said but that's how you dance to a song you don't know in a club 😁 And the hair.... Was trying to explain the concept of hair mousse 🤣

Seeline · 03/09/2023 08:50

Oh - DD was confused as to why they seemed to be wearing slippers much of the time (those sheepskin lined moccasin types). I really don't remember those being a feature of my 80s footwear (stilletos or pixie boots mainly).

the80sweregreat · 03/09/2023 09:15

I loved hair gel / mousse on my perm
Hair is certainly much better these days I think lol

the80sweregreat · 03/09/2023 09:16

Kim Wilde was cool / sassy
The UK version of Debbie Harry I always thought!

Oh so much this. So natural, DGAF, and vivacious. Spent my childhood learning the iffy dance routines!

itsmyp4rty · 03/09/2023 09:50

Oh I miss the days of bending over and blow drying my moussed hair upside down to give it more volume - and then back combing it to give it more. I desperately wanted to look cool in a tutu skirt and denim jacket but just looked like a demented fairy. A rara skirt and reversible mickey mouse jumper was no better either.

Taytocrisps · 03/09/2023 10:20

I've recorded it and will watch it some Saturday evening. I've already watched the Wham! documentary on Netflix. We just need Duran Duran and Spandau Ballet shows and my '80s fix will be complete.

the80sweregreat · 03/09/2023 10:41

I saw on Facebook today that Martin Kemp has written a fictional novel set in London and sounds like its characters are similar to the one he played in Eastenders.
I admit I do sigh when it's yet another celeb having their works published as I'm sure it's more the name on the cover than the actual content which gets to it to market, although I know that sounds a bit harsh as I haven't read it and it might be brilliant.

Taytocrisps · 03/09/2023 20:38

@the80sweregreat I'd be a bit sceptical too.
