Is your TV on all the time and do you turn out of when you have visitors?

When I was younger my mother would have the TV on all the time... if she was awake the TV was on. I'm not the same... the TV is never on in the day and only in the evening if we want to watch something specific. This is in no way a stealth brag...I spend hours faffing about watching tik tok and playing games on my phone. I was watching a tik tok video yesterday and there was a lovely family reunion in someone's house and the massive TV was blaring in the background... quite spoilt the moment! Also when we visit my MIL she never turns the TV off and I find myself completely zoning out of the conversation and watching something I would never usually watch... like one of those police or ambulance programmes...I then get completely engrossed in the programme and then miss bits cos I have to rejoin the conversation!

@aSofaNearYou at no point did i say it was more worthy. Just that’s what I do instead of watching tv.

Ours is on in the kitchen/diner/family room area first thing, as I like BBC breakfast. Goes off about 7.45am. Never on during the day (apart from ‘events’ like the Olympics, Queen’s funeral, World Cup etc).
Then it goes on about 7pm after tea until bedtime.

My elderly MIL who lives with us, has hers on all day (she has a sort of self contained studio annexe).

Sort of, we have spotify on the tv and use that for music a lot of the time but usually on quietly.
We only turn it over to actual tv to specifically watch a show.

God no. Hate it.

I like radio as my background noise.
TV is too distracting. Fire is visually stimulating enough.

DM is at the stage of the TV being turned up to 50. It's overwhelming.

I have it on a lot in the winter, not much in the summer and never if people come round

NeverDropYourMooncup · 07/12/2023 18:50

My mother would do that.

TV on full blast.

Radio at other end (14ft) of the room on full blast.

Radio in kitchen (9ft away) on full blast on a different station.

Couldn't hear a bloody thing she said and felt like I was being beaten around the cranium with an iron bar.
