Could we live without a TV?

Hi folks, I'm not really sure where to place this question so leaving it here..

Our TV was just broken by my DD this week, and we were going to buy a new one. We need to get a TV unit first though (before it was on something else), but I'm actually considering not buying one at all.

My wife and I use phones and our laptops to watch stuff, and it's mainly the kids that have the TV. I think less tech is healthy for all of us, and maybe I have been ''influenced'' by videos of people living a good life without much tech...

I wondered if it would be possible, or even weird to live a modern life without any TV in the house. We can watch important events, news etc on our laptops, but I was thinking more of the kids. When we need to do chores, get food ready etc they generally have TV, or if we all just need to chill out rather than run around playing games. Despite this, I think we'd have a more fulfilling life without any TV. I am not sure I would even have the energy though, and tbh, it's mainly my wife at home since I work full time. I don't expect her to be running around after the kids all the time without TV as back up lol. I wondered what you guys thought though.

The TV is the most sociable of all tech in our house. I'm watching Wimbledon with my husband and child now, if we didn't have the TV we probably wouldn't even be in the same room.

Two under 3 here. Our tv is just connected to an old laptop on which we watch streamed content chosen/controlled by us adults. It plays one episode of something we approve of at a time, for use on sick days, after busy outdoors days, or when adults absolutely have to be doing something else. It’s never on before about 4pm, or for more than about a hour. Works for us.

We have one tv and it literally is only watched by the kids. We've cancelled virgin because we never got to watch to anything and generally just watch kids stuff on Netflix or Disney. I really do think we could do without ours. I don't watch much tv but when I do it's usually on my phone after the kids are in bed. They do have kindles they could watch Netflix and Disney on though.

We have a cheap projector and a screen hooked up to a laptop. Much cheaper than a TV that size (plus we hook it up to the Switch for Mario Kart!)

I haven’t watched tv in three months! You can live without it

My parents didn't buy a television until I was ten, so I don't feel addicted to it. I didn't watch it for over a month recently. I love radio though.

We lived without a TV for a long while but I think it is unfair if you live like this My wife and I use phones and our laptops to watch stuff, and it's mainly the kids that have the TV and then remove the TV.

If you get rid of the TV, you need to either let the kids watch on the lapop or you stop watching too.

I couldn’t, as I can’t stand trying to watch stuff on tiny screens. It’s ok if I’m a flight for a short time but not long term.

I did without a TV for years when I was younger and actually I prefer it to now where it's constantly on just for the sake of it. I'd still stream stuff on my laptop a bit, but I only watched stuff I actually wanted to see. It was much better! Would do the same now if my partner was game, but he loves the telly.

IPad or laptop is fine as long as there is only one person watching, its quite difficult for two or three people to crowd round a laptop and watch anything for long.
