I wonder what this will be like. Series about brother and sister both aspiring rappers in Black music scene.

Could be really interesting or could be not quite as cutting edge as the BBC are hoping for!

8 episodes - looks like they are all available to watch via iPlayer https://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episodes/p0frq6zd/champion

I've watched a couple of episode of this now.

I'm quite enjoying it in a soapy sort of way.

Family dramas, sibling rivarly, daughters being expected to put brothers first. Old school Black community values vs. modern values.

All under the gaze of social media.

But as I know nothing about that music scene cant say how accurate that is.

I’m enjoying it, loving the music & finding it quite atmospheric. I’ve never lived in South East London but it’s nice to get a sense of the area. I think it’s well acted too.

I think also that's what makes it refreshing. With all due respect to some of our established performers, you do sometimes turn on the tv and think oh no, its all the same cast as last week's new series.

In fact quite inspiring to see so many new (well to me) actors and actresses being really convincing - and so musically talented.

I wish I knew how to use my mobile phone like that!

I really enjoyed Saturdays episode. And I'm so not the intended audiance.

I'm 72, never lived in London and never listened to rap, but I found the first episode well written and acted, so I'll stay around for at least the next episode.

That’s great! I love that. One of the best things about the BBC showcasing new talent like this is you get a really varied audience.

I dont think it is meant to be aimed at a particularly group eg young people, or Black British people.

Isn't it the BBC trying to show they can reflect a wider society than the usual suburban set white middle class family whose child goes missing or something.

And facing up to criticism that they maybe dont do this enough.

In fact I think the BBC did used to do more series reflecting different communities in the UK.

Does anyone remember Blouse and Skirt.

I have finished this now and think it is more than a soap.

Some of the family relationships are really a bit depressing.

Wont say anything about the plot line, but clearly are hoping for a second series.

As do I!

I must admit I gave up around episode 4 as I felt it was getting to repetitive & I was sick of hearing about Bosco! Maybe it improves? I also found some of the accents seemed to come & go which was distracting!

IwantToRetire · 15/07/2023 17:24

I was sick of hearing about Bosco

Well that was part of the storyline.

Why were the parents obsessed about Bosco and ignored or exploited Vita?
