Looking for something to watch with dc aged between 8 and 17. They enjoyed only fools and horses, Mr bean, taskmaster, Morecambe and wise, but their absolute favourite is some mothers do ave em. We can't watch anything with swearing unless it's very mild as youngest has echolalia and goes through phases of repeating words or phrases constantly. Is there anything good that is similar to some mothers do ave em? My 12 year old in particular loves Frank's funny accidents. My older ones love the goes wrong show as well but it's rated 12 so not ok for the younger ones.

Fawlty Towers? It's funny and chaotic, but a different kind of humour I think. And not always terribly PC! But for farcical comedy, it's the one that stands out for me.

Likely Lads?
All these old comedies are my comfort food telly.
Vicar of Dibley?

Last of the summer wine?
on the buses?

Gonksmum · 14/05/2023 18:51

Keeping up Appearances? 'Allo, 'Allo is very silly but can be a bit "racy". Hi de Hi is daft too.

Gonksmum · 14/05/2023 18:53

Dad's Army is in much the same vein as the above. Always lots of daft situations involved.

I'm not sure I'd be encouraging them (the youngest in particular) to watch 'on the busses' it's very non PC 🤣🤣as are many of the otherwise brilliant 70's sitcoms.

@elliejjtiny - lost track of what has/hasn't been mentioned...

Faulty Towers
The Good Life
George & Mildred

You could try 'Allo allo.

one foot in the grave
vicar of Dibley

That's a good call too!

I second Hi de hi . maybe 'The Goodies' . Don't know if you can watch it anywhere nowadays.

Gonksmum · 14/05/2023 18:57

Just remembered Sorry, I've Got no Head from CBBC around 10/15 years ago when my son was young. It's genuinely funny for adults too.

Gonksmum · 14/05/2023 19:01

Definitely not PC now, but the Carry On films were very popular too with my son ( and me when I was young).

wildincountry · 14/05/2023 19:02

The other thing me and my siblings enjoyed watching when we were kids was repeats of 'Laurel and Hardy' and 'Harold Lloyd' . Maybe only available on DVD .

Galadali · 14/05/2023 19:04

The Brittas Empire? Family-friendly and ridiculous.

QuintanaRoo · 14/05/2023 19:06

Yes, you forget how non PC some of them were.

would 8yo be too young for Red Dwarf?

QuintanaRoo · 14/05/2023 19:07

Oh maybe too much “smeg” in Red Dwarf actually

BestZebbie · 14/05/2023 20:16

Open All Hours? A bit less slapstick but still a good helping of falling off a bike/ladder/getting stuck in something/bitten by the till throughout.

The Good Life is another gentle show from that eras that has dated better than some of the others!

Big Business by Laurel & Hardy. Online here:

A silent film in which they are Christmas Tree salesman trying to sell in July.

It is a masterclass of comedy and I recommend it to everyone. It just gets better and better as the dispute escalates

Also The Goes Wrong Show on IPlayer is good.
