Banjo - Designing the Hebrides

Just watched the first episode of this and really enjoyed it - he's so likeable and it's great seeing local folk involved. Liked the finished design - I'd definitely be curious and want to pop in if I was passing. Did wonder how it would feel in winter though - too dark or nice & cosy? What did anyone else think?

I have just watched this too. I love Banjo.

Just watched it too. Really loved what he came up with and it looked amazing! The design gave the owners room to add to it as time goes by.

I love interior design shows but I found Banjo incredibly annoying on Design Masters.
Might have to gird my loins and give it a go.

I really enjoyed it.

I thought he was nuts doing the inside black as well but it seems to work. I'm also not sure what it would be like in the dark winter months though.

I really enjoyed it but felt a bit sorry for the fish shop where he wasted 6K of theirs on the burnt wood when he could have painted cheap wood black instead.

Just goes to show if you give a big budget it can just get wasted on unnecessary items

A darker grey blue would have looked better imho

For some reason I think charring the wood preserves it... something to do with the resin in it 🤔 I vaguely remember something like that from either Grand designs or George Clarke. Might be utter nonsense of course 😂

SoupDragon · 25/04/2023 14:13

Apparently I am right!

It is a non-toxic way to make wood resistant to rot, insects, and weathering. Charred timber will last for 80-100 years without repainting or restaining. Maintenance is easy, as it needs only a new coat of oil every 10-15 years.

MooseBeTimeForSnow · 25/04/2023 14:37

It’s a Japanese wood preservation technique called yakisugi.

Anyone watching the new series? I'm really enjoying it. Just watched the wool shop one, loved it!

I've watched the first episode of the new series. Interior design and gorgeous scenery is a winning combo.

Sunshineandgin · 19/09/2024 20:07

I'm watching, love the designs and the way he styles things. I don't like how it's all been filmed "only 3 days to do it all so we have to rush rush rush."
I suppose it's meant to be like the interior design competition but I think it would be as enjoyable or even more so if there was more time spent showing the detail and process rather than making it all look hastily finished when clearly they're putting a lot of time and attention into it.

theministerscat · 19/09/2024 20:38

@Sunshineandgin Yes, I totally agree about the rush - it seems so unnecessary! Rather than adding tension, it just feels like poor planning. Like, why would you redecorate the pub on Easdale 3 days before the biggest event of the year??? But apart from that, it's great.
