Thought I’d better start a new thread before today’s episode as the old one was almost full.

At least we’ve got a break from Nina until next week.

I must’ve missed that Rich was only going for six months, I thought he was going for good. I was hoping that Kirsty would decided she missed him too much and followed him out there.

Love her dining table too though!

Bear just said that Tanesha(sp?) is an old university friend. I thought he was struggling with his literacy when he arrived on the show. Can a person who can not read or write go to university?

Bear has dyslexia, and yes, lots of people with dyslexia pass exams, go to university and do jobs that involve reading and writing - it's just more difficult for them. They can generally ask for reasonable adjustments to help them cope.

LIZS · 25/04/2023 15:42

I thought Bear had dropped put of uni. Anyone else feel Envy at Kirsty and Rich. How does Kirsty afford that house on her own as a receptionist with layabout son.

Bradsgoodreally · 25/04/2023 15:46

I thought he was avoiding reading and writing to the extent that he had not written his CV and could not read what it said. Dyslexia may have been the cause of his initial difficulties, but I seem to remember the story line suggested that early problems had led to him never learning to read and write much at all. I am not suggesting that people with dyslexia can not learn to read and write, or that they can not attend university and achieve just as well as anyone else. I am suggesting that the story line had him unable to read and write at the point that he got the job at the doctors' surgery. Surely if that was the case he would not have been able to attend university prior to that. If someone else had to write his CV for him, did they fill out the UCAS form and do all his essays too?

At university (unlike school) it is really easy to get support for disabilities such as dyslexia, they can get lots of specialist software and hardware, in-person support (my DS has someone that proofreads all his work) and whatever is needed really. However you do have to be formally diagnosed and willing to apply for it all, which is at odds with Bear taking the job at The Mill and hiding his dyslexia then struggling without all the specialist softwares etc. Also no explanation of where he was for the approx 10 years between uni and The Mill and why it was suddenly a problem at the Mill.

As for Martha, no, a autism diagnosis doesn't get you much in itself (we got a letter and a pamphlet detailing support groups) but it does give a lot more power to your elbow for applying for an EHCP and benefits such as DLA/PIP and then the uni stuff (my DS was diagnosed in primary school). Getting that diagnosis made a HUGE difference to us. Wishful thinking that the waits are only a few months though.

Oh blimey. More Kirsty.

Raahh · 26/04/2023 13:48

Is Scarlett avoiding Ollie now?

Wonder how long Immie is sticking around?

Raahh · 26/04/2023 13:49

Oh dear- this isnt good. Poor Sue.

Raahh · 26/04/2023 13:52

Oh now Emma is on a mission.

Raahh · 26/04/2023 13:53

Can't Rob see someone other than drippy Sid? He would be the last person I would want to see if I was him.

Raahh · 26/04/2023 13:56

So Emma has no patients actually in the practice then

And Grin at Rob putting Nina in her place. 'I've not idea who you are'

Raahh · 26/04/2023 13:56

*no idea

LIZS · 26/04/2023 13:57

Why dies Ollie deserve a fry up? What does he need energy for, he has no job.

Raahh · 26/04/2023 13:59

Oh Immie and Sid had a 'thing' once, didn't they- forgot that.

Raahh · 26/04/2023 13:59

I did wonder that- what is he actually doing?

Raahh · 26/04/2023 14:00

Emma likes doing films GrinI suppose this is less invasive than the smear one!

Raahh · 26/04/2023 14:03

I don't think Zara's 'contact' looks too pleased to see her.

martinisforeveryone · 26/04/2023 14:07

Snotty councillor (Donaldson) is going to be something to do with the contractors isn't he.

MadisonAvenue · 26/04/2023 14:08

I like how they combine real Birmingham names to make fictional ones - Selly Heath Rd from Selly Oak and Kings Heath.
Crossroads used to do the same 😂

Need to catch up on the last 10 minutes - had to get the dog from the groomer!

It looks that way, there’s something dodgy going on there.

I know Immie worried about Rob selling up too soon but she has no real connection with that house, other than the fact Rob and Karen lived in it.

martinisforeveryone · 26/04/2023 14:37

Most ridiculous line of the episode 'you're not yourself' because it's been five minutes since the unexpected death of his wife Immie, thought you might be feeling a bit similar losing your mum.

JustDanceAddict · 26/04/2023 15:07

Exactly @martinisforeveryone!!

Yes, but he would hardly have lasted as long in the role of practi... I mean business manager (😁) at the Mill if he wasn't coping somehow. His job must involve reading and writing on an everyday basis! So we can only assume that he's using whatever aids people in that situation might use to help them, such as different fonts, reading through coloured film, using Grammarly to check stuff, etc.
