Did anyone watch this?
Fascinating viewing but I would have liked it to go a bit deeper overall really.
It didn't say what that Sister found hard about her first few months.
And where do they actually stay on their missions? It didn't say and I couldn't work it out!

How successful are they recruiting people?
I find it hard to believe they have huge success recruiting people.
It said they needed to message 50 people a day! I think that's what it said anyway it seemed a ridiculous amount

I have family that are, or at least were, most have left now, heavily involved in the church.

Missionaries stay in rented or owned accommodation sorted out by the church.

I feel sorry for them. Most are just so young and naive to the wider world.

I find it particularly hypocritical that they are allowed social media use to talk to/ convert people but not to watch a film or talk to their family and friends when they want.

Just literally all about getting new recruits

I loved talking to the missionaries in our town because their lives were interesting, but they would always try to convert me to their way of thinking even after I explained I wasn’t interested so I quickly lost respect for them.

I have met 2 missionaries from America who tried to get me to come to one of their church things. Can't remember what it was called.
Unsure what church sect it was for but it was definitely a missionary like on here.
They were lovely. Haven't seen them for a while but only had a brief conversation with them though

I just can't understand how they can get a good amount of recruits?

And why can't they watch a film?

Interesting that half that family has left the church.
And half the family are still in it

Imagine having all the cities in all the countries in the world on offer and being sent from Hertfordshire to Wrexham and she didn't even get to meet Ryan Reynolds! No wonder she felt homesick, her parents were just down the road but she wasn't allowed to see them or even talk to them without a chaperone.

It all felt a bit Handmaid's tale, the pairing up to monitor each other.

I felt that at any moment someone would come and rescue them, especially Dave the mechanic -he seemed so vulnerable.

I was looking for a thread on this. Found it really interesting. But I was a bit Hmm at the complete lack of privacy, and the girl having to sleep on a Mattress in a tiny room. That's not really acceptable. They all seem happy enough though. I did wonder if they would have more success if they met people for a coffee or a cup of tea and a chat. Not that that is allowed. But it's a good way of breaking ice and getting to know people

@purpleme12 I agree. I think it needed more episodes. I would’ve liked to have seen more about BYU and the Mormon community in Utah. I wonder if the bbc looked for drama and scandal and didn’t really find it , as they presented themselves well.

I need to watch this! I recently watched “Mormon no more” on Disney plus and it was fascinating, primarily about two women leaving the church but also stories about Mormons who have challenged the church doctrines. Quite a bit about BYU and LGBTQ students.

I find the religion utterly bizarre and some of the stories were heartbreaking, It didn’t paint the church in a good light.

The large Mormon church/temple in Lancashire they featured at the start is very close to where I grew up (and dominates the landscape, especially at night as it's floodlit). After it was built, they had an open day and allowed all the locals in for a look round. Apparently no expense was spared on the fit out. Immediately after the open day, all the newly fitted expensive carpets were ripped out and replaced. The implication was that non-Mormons traipsing about on them wasn't good and that's why they were replaced.

@byvirtue Thanks for the recommendation one just watched Mormon no more.

What a moving story. I especially loved how all of Sally’s family- well her parents at least- left the church in the end. I hope they have all found a happiness together in realising they don’t need the church to be a loving family.
