What to watch to distract from illness?

MrsBennetsPoorNerves · 03/02/2023 16:09

I'm sick and feeling super sorry for myself. For various reasons, I'm also on my own until tomorrow evening. (DD did very sweetly offer to come back and babysit me but I declined!Wink)

Anyway, I urgently need distraction!! I want something really easy to watch and which also has the feelgood factor or is just a little bit silly. Nothing scary as I'm a wuss. And nothing too gritty right now because I need cheering up. I like period drama, cheesy American dramas, crap teen drama suite, political drama and various other random stuff. Not keen on hospital/police/midwife type stuff for some reason.

Things that I have enjoyed/have helped me pass the time previously when I've felt like this include:

Downton Abbey
The Crown (though I couldn't get into the final series)
Pride and Prejudice (BBC version)
Persuasion
North & South
Various Dickens adaptations, especially Bleak House
Sweet Magnolias
Virgin River
Greenleaf
Emily in Paris
Designated survivor
Never have I ever
Ginny & Georgia
Firefly Lane
Bridgerton etc

I am not necessarily looking for qualittle. I just need something easy that will distract me from how rubbish I feel.

Any suggestions, please?

Have Netflix, Prime and normal TV. Might still have a free trial for Disney but not sure. Willing to pay for something really good though!

minipie · 03/02/2023 16:27

Schitts Creek
Superstore
Dead to Me
Le Bazar de la Charite - in French but you can set to subtitles or dubbing I think
The Last Kingdom
if you have Disney - The Resident

minipie · 03/02/2023 16:28

Oh and Locke and Key is a guilty pleasure of mine - it’s teenage sci fi rubbish but I enjoy it anyway!

QuestionableMouse · 03/02/2023 16:28

Leverage/Leverage Redemption on Prime.
Santa Clarita Diet on Netflix (it's gory but not scary)
Nashville
Derry Girls

Hope you're feeling better soon!

I'm down with covid and cant concentrate on long episodes so I've been watching Frankie & Grace and Superstore

I can also recommend Bluey if you are around little kids and need to know what they're talking about!

Heavydirtysou1 · 04/02/2023 09:01

Yy to a place to call home - heard of it on here and it got me through a rough patch

Everwood on ITVx. Hart of Dixie was good as well but not sure if still available.

Ohifyouinsist · 04/02/2023 09:09

If you like period drama, Upstairs Downstairs? Or Brideshead Revisited. Both old, but entertaining.

MeMyCatsAndMyBooks · 04/02/2023 09:14

Call the midwife.
