I loved the first episode so much that I binged.

The ending just didn’t do it for me though. She shops Guy in and then ends up covering his job so is the only one who professionally does ok.

Catherine gets totally screwed out if the consultant job and has to potentially give up her speciality and Maryam has to take time out. Apart from Maryams breakdown it just didn’t ring true for me

Yep I was gutted about catherine losing out - but I guess it’s meant to reflect reality for a lot of working mums

opencheese · 19/01/2023 20:25

What was that 'therapy' catherine had?

Also wondering this.

the bit that confused me most was when Catherine delivered that unexpected baby in recovery.
1: she cut the cord with no clamp on it (I can overlook this cos TV isn’t that accurate)
2: she was really berating herself for not delivering the placenta?! like…it’s ok, it’s still in there and will come out soon, it’s not like you have a 2 minute window to ‘deliver’ it before it disappears or something. I’ve been puzzling over this for days!

I also binged over two nights. I sobbed at the end, it touched a nerve with me about my career (non medical) since having my DC. I really enjoyed the whole thing, I think with Catherine the only reason that Guy was the consultant was because she'd sacrificed elements of her career to have the family. I thought the issues relating to covid were sad and (possibly) realistic. Joe Thomas (Max) still looks 16!

Ulysses · 20/01/2023 07:38

Another binger! I lapped it up and can see it running for a few series.

Hope Catherine gets child maintenance sorted with transplant surgeon. That would help with expensive childcare.

Yes the references to Covid was quite hard hitting. I cried at the scenes with the ovarian cancer patient and her wife who wanted to be discharged with dignity.

It really hit home the responsibility the doctors and staff have to shoulder.

Yes I finished it last night. I wasn't that impressed by the first episode but glad I persisted.
I agree- I think the portrayal of the women in general shouldering everything home was sadly very accurate (apart from Maz's husband but even he didn't get the full picture).

The men generally came off looking weak and childish.
I enjoyed it more than I thought I would. The interactions with the various patients were lovely and bittersweet / very sad in places.

I am sure there are a million inaccuracies and things that are not representative of how things are in hospitals so I can't critique that - but it confirmed my belief that I could never have gone into a career like that. I found the bleepers going off every minute when the women were having to deal with so much already in and outside of work incredibly stressful (for them)

A really good series I thought. Pleasantly surprised

opencheese · 20/01/2023 22:00

@Asdayno

Agree! I had to have an injection to expel my
Placenta . They don't plop out at speed

Not sure how wel cast Guy was. He was supposedly the son of an earl. Didnt give off aristocracy vibes

But their house did!!!

No, it was his dad who was the second son of an Earl.

I enjoyed it. I thought what the female consultant said in the first episode was so insightful - she went into debt because she had to pay for a nanny but the male surgeons were fine as they didn't have to pay their wives.

Myofascial release. I thought it was a bit woo but seemed to work for her…. 😕

Just finished the series. Really enjoyed it and a good ending. Good reflection of challenges of working mothers and how there’s a long way to go.

otherwayup · 22/01/2023 18:55

I really enjoyed it, although I'm sure there were huge inaccuracies!
I thought it was a realistic portrayal of what it's like for women at work once they've had babies, although all of them looked extremely comfortable financially, a very different picture for many working parents!

diddl · 29/01/2023 08:38

I enjoyed it also.

Wasn't surprised that Catherine didn't get the job.

Not because she's female but her awful attitude towards others.

Some of it was downright daft though.

Anyone think that Lars will go for custody?

Which obviously means his wife doing most of the childcare-which I presume is why he involved her straight away?

I thought hat there might be some doubt about Elis's paternity but I guess that has been solved?

So will Maryam adopt the baby now?

Disappointed that Helen & Jack had sex!

So has Guy had ptsd all this time & we're supposed to have some sympathy?

Bloody Louise "but I luuurve him"

Aye right-just fuck off!

spiderlight · 03/02/2023 14:55

I finished this last night. I was expecting it to turn out that Jack was Elis's dad. (Anyone else wonder whether the name 'Elis' is a nod to Grey's Anatomy?)

The unclamped cord annoyed me too, and the unnecessary flapping about the placenta about twelve seconds after the baby had been born.

safeplanet · 04/02/2023 00:00

How come Guy & Helen are so rich? that amazing house & prep school for 3 dc?

Old money? His grandfather was an Earl.
