Taskmaster party

slightly random question, but have hit a mental block and need a hive mind!

We’re hosting by a taskmaster party with friends. We did the same last year and it was great fun. I’m hitting a block with how to deliver the first task this time though. Most of the tasks last time were just sent in the post in the traditional folded paper with wax seal, but for the first one last year we attached it to a taskmaster balloon and left it outside each teams front door for them to discover. All the teams live locally so it’s easy to go to each house if needed.
This year the first task is about hiding an object, so am trying to think of a way of setting the task themed on hiding. Nothing expensive to create as money is tight. I wondered about getting the task put inside a fortune cookie?? But otherwise am all out of inspiration! Anyone got any ideas how to deliver this task? Something simple but fun!
thanks so much for any ideas!!

I’m not creative enough to have any ideas for you, but this sounds like a fab party!

It was so much fun! Everyone filmed themselves completing the tasks and I edited them together then we had a get together and watched all the efforts as well as doing a final task together. Silly fun after a few tough lockdown years!

Could you do a little treasure hunt for the task? Just a few little stops around people's gardens or whatever?

Omg I love this idea!
Would you mind sharing how you went about it? Was it your idea or could I find it online?

Can I be your friend?

Depending on the houses newer ones have the meter cupboard outside - you could hide something in there and then send a cryptic text.

Do you have a local milkman / lady who could deliver the clue in an empty bottle - you'd have to pay but probably not much.

Buy something cheap from Amazon, put it as a gift and put the clue on the message card.

Bribe a couple of kids to knock on the door, shout trick or treat and then hand over the clue.

Bake giant cup cakes and put the task, rolled up inside, blob of icing/jam and some sprinkles? Cheap and delicious!!

Could you use what3words to find a public spot near where they live and hide the task in that area.

Could you put the clue rolled up in a Kinder Egg egg, core out a hole from the cake, reassemble and ice over the top, maybe?

Seconded! I want to know how to arrange and host a Taskmaster party!

Ahh so many good ideas, thank you! I really like lots of them. The cake idea may well be a winner. I love the kinder egg addition… that would work well I think. Most of the teams have small kids so anything that involves them leaving the house is tricky, otherwise thevwhat3words is a great idea.
I love the milk bottle idea! But last year our first task was to RSVP in the most unexpected way and one team wrote a waterproof RSVP and hid it inside one of our milk bottles. It wasn’t until I was making a coffee a day later and poured it out that I discovered the note!

Have toddler climbing over me atm but will pop back at lunchtime and write out how we planned it and where we got ideas for those that are interested.

Oooo Following to find out about how you did this. Sounds so fun!

Right, for those who were asking what we did... (sorry if its a bit long!)

We had six teams of two who took part. We did the tasks over about 3 months. Most of the tasks were sent to the teams' homes and they were asked to record themselves reading the task aloud, any planning/preparations and then completing the task itself. They then sent the footage to me and I used imovie to edit everyone's efforts together. Some of the tasks we set up at our own house and asked each team to come over for an evening to do the tasks. These were tasks where we wanted each team to have exactly the same resources etc, so were better 'controlled' at ours.
To help make the edited films as close to the show as real, I found some files of music from the show which we used. You can find them on this thread...
www.reddit.com/r/taskmaster/comments/9vzcp2/taskmaster_music/ (Not sure if the links are still working.)

On the final night we had a prize bringing task and a final task and inbetween we had plenty of drinks and watched/scored everyones tasks on a big screen.

We used some reddit threads for task inspiration. This one was especially helpful... www.reddit.com/r/taskmaster/comments/k4m87x/taskmaster_party_ideas_megathread/
but also wrote some of our own.

Some of our most successful tasks were..

  1. RSVP to this invitation in the most unexpected way. (We had someone turn up in a giant dino costume, someone hid the reply inside one of our milk bottles that had been delivered, someone landed a drone in our garden...!)
  2. Get the ball in the bucket. Most dramatic wins. (we had everything from a shakepeare performance to indoor fireworks and morecombe and wise type sketches) We also tricked a couple of teams and gave them tasks that on the night turned out to be only individual tasks. My favourite of these was "Take a selfie with as many different dogs as possible." That team ended feeling especially competitive and got tickets to crufts, taking over 140 selfies! It was very funny to tell them in the end, they were they only team taking dog selfies!

Our prize task worked well... we asked everyone to bring the best party snack and dress to match. That meant we had nibbles to share for the evening.

We found wax seal stickers on ebay for sealing all the tasks and made cue cards etc to look like the real ones. Other than that, we just enjoyed being silly together. I honestly don't think we've all laughed as much.

Hope that helps any budding Taskmasters!
Thanks again for the ideas to get our second effort started.
