Are all playgroup's as bizarre as this one? (sorry - long!)

My dd goes to a private playgroup with 3 of her friends. I've been worried about the situation there for some time now but would like your opinions.

The 2 playgroup leaders are nice enough people but I've never once seen them in the same room together. I'm beginning to wonder if they are in fact the same person - despite one being Irish with purple hair and the other being a balding northerner called Max. Does this sound insane to you?

The playgroup also has pets. I was a little dubious at first about them having a dog but dd insisted that Doodles was a friendly pooch who talked to them so I let that one go. Now it seems that they have acquired a second dog. Apparently this one is called Izzles and yaps a lot.

The children are often taken on outings on the spur of the moment. They tend to be fairly educational so I shouldn't complain but it would be nice to be asked for permission now and then.

On the plus side my dd has developed the most wonderful singing and dancing routines. Even the little 2yr-old boy (Jake) who goes there is also something of an expert when it comes to synchronised dancing. I'm not too sure that a 2yr-old should have a mohican but that's another thread I suppose.

So, should I leave my darling Fizz at this playgroup or look for somewhere slightly less odd?

Certainly sounds v.different to the nursery school that I worked at. But different doesn't mean bad iykwim.

We certainly would have asked for permission for the little trips we used to do, like walking kids down to the local church and spar shop.
Cant imagine having dogs as part of the setup, but one of the leaders did used to bring in her dog occasionally, because the kids loved it

Does sound a little unorthodox. Are they ofsted inspected?

I think it sounds great. Reminds me of primary school when we had lots of pets and got to take turns taking them home at the weekend to look after them. Also went on lots of excursions and nature trails that never required any parental consent.

I'd chill and as long as the kids are happy and look forward to it then let it be (cue song ...)

LIZS · 03/12/2004 19:39

rofl . Aren't you concerned about what they put in the snacks and juice that makes the kids shrink on outings too ?

tammyBEARinggifts · 03/12/2004 19:40

but mumtofizz, why do you always dress your dd in the same outfit everyday? what if it gets dirty?

wobblystarryknicks · 03/12/2004 19:42

I'm very concerned that the kids are allowed to play outside on the play equipment AND use a large electrical device without adult supervision - surely even Ofsted couldn't allow that!!!

Today Max & Judy were seen together! (but out at a museum while no one was looking after the kids - MtF, I would be rather concerned if I were you...)

Please could you ask your daughter and her friends to stop doing silly things like picking up matches or going near fridges

cos every time they do it scares the bejeezus out of DS (3.9) and he runs crying from the room

wobblystarryknicks · 03/12/2004 19:48

Mind you, it beats the nursery where the manageress spends her playdays dressing up like a cheap hooker and getting all her friends to provide the music while she pole dances!!!

PMSL mainly cos this is the first time i have read a MN joke and not fallen into the trap of believing its true!!!!!!!!!!

jane313 · 03/12/2004 19:54

I worry about the child teacher ratio in that nursery and the fact she seems to constantly leave pots of tea around or justs chats with her friends. One of whom today took a cow home to give it a cuddle????
