Motherland Christmas special is one of the best Christmas shows ever

Spoilers for anyone who hasn’t watched it (it’s on Netflix and BBC I player season 3).

It’s hilarious! I love every single character!

from Julia’s stressful Christmas preparations (trying to handle the in laws, her useless husband phoning her while stuck in TK Maxx asking her for ideas for presents), Kevin attempting to play all of Mine Kraft (and his very Hitlererque way of pronouncing it) and being attacked by Charlie, Meg’s partridge rap, Liz being Liz and wanting to stay in to watch Hereditary again, the “cocaine” incident at Amanda’s party and then Anne’s look of horror as she goes to answer the door seeing the gang back again “I was just getting the bins”. And everything about Amanda. She’s an awful person but I truly think Lucy Punch has created a brilliant character.

And hot Sam Shepard too! I do wonder who did all the prep for Julia though.

Can’t wait for the new Christmas episode!

I hope the Christmas special tonight lives up to the hype !

I hope her in laws are on it, they are hilarious. I think her mum did all the Christmas food prep I can't imagine them helping 😂

I've watched the last Christmas special 3 times already in the last month. Once with 21 year old DS who is a new convert, once by myself and once with DH. I'm really looking forward to tonight and have bought prosecco specially 😆
The characters are developing nicely as the years go by and it would be terrible if they didn't make another.

Ah I loved this year's too. I'm not going to mention any spoilers. I know Amanda's mum joked about her dress being from the Selfridge's sale but does anyone know who its by? It was so pretty.

Last years’ Xmas special has a Santa spoiler but I don’t think this years’ does. However, I don’t think it’s particularly child friendly (someone dies).

Yea, it's pretty sad at times and the death takes up a big chunk of the episode.

I watched last year's Christmas special with my 83 year old Mum who was in fits of laughter. She said it was the best programme she'd seen all year... Thank god I didn't watch this Christmas's one with her 😱.
I'm so glad I'd been pre-warned about the granny episode.

Yes this year's Christmas special wasn't so much of a barrel of laughs. Was full of empathy for Amanda too. Although glad they didn't turn it all mushy between Amanda and her own mum

It was much better the second time I watched it without the shock overshadowing everything. Lots of funny one liners
