Surely Nick Cope (Cbebbies) is just the best thing on children's tv?

I absolutely love watching the Nick Cope Popcast, nevermind my children, lol! Luckily they love watching it too.
His songs are so well written, amusing, catchy, relaxing, thoughtful, relatable. I was listening to the penguin song recently and thought it had a slight Beatles sound to it. Nick seems so unassuming and gentle in his presenting style and is obviously a talented songwriter.

We love Nick Cope so much we've booked up to see him live next year and I can't wait!

Anyone else a fan?

It’s one of the less grating childrens tv programmes I’ll give you that. Definitely happier to listen to him than Gemma Atkinson warbling on the toddler club

Sorry to disagree straight off the bat OP, but I find him unbearably smug!

I also hate Bluey though so my Cbeebies opinions are not reflective of the mainstream.

Years ago he used to have a singing group in our local area that other mums raved about. Took my daughter along and it was awful - very little child participation (they were just given a tiny shaker and expected to shake along while he sang). Then at the end he told them they had to clap. It was like he was desperate for an audience. Personally I preferred groups where the children actually took part.

“I’ve lost my bobble hat…. The one with the bobble that is coming undone….. the one with the bobble that wobbles when I run…..when I run”

Thanks OP, I’m now going to be humming this all evening!

I find him weirdly calming actually

My kids are too old for CBeebies now, but before he hit the TV big time Nick Cope was quite the local superstar doing "gigs" regularly around my area. I've seen him numerous times and my kids LOVED him. His songs were regularly on in the car and I still sometimes find myself with a Nick Cope earworm. He's a nice guy as well although he sometimes told off the parents for talking through his shows! It's amazing to me that our local party entertainer who kept my kids amused in various church halls/village fetes for years is on the BBC!

Since Tinga Tales disappeared without reason/ trace we needed another nap time program and it quite often has me nodding off. The other one we used to watch was the Salty Dog and Me one.

^There was brontosaurus, stegosaurus and t-rex,
Not forgetting diplodocus with his long neck…. ^

This has been my ear worm for 16 months now, he can get to fuck.

I like him really, but there is some utter fucking turd on CBeebies. Waffle the Wonderdog is the the worst thing like, that family shouldn’t own any pets.

He is like the adult version of a wet blanket to me.

I will blast my love for Bluey to anyone who will listen though! The space and dance mode episodes are some of my favourites.

Oh Lord, Tinga Tinga tales kills me; it's so long and whiney, not forgetting the lack of harmonies and rhythm. The singers should be ashamed of ever having recorded that song.

My fall asleep programme is / was Postman pat SDS.

I find him annoyingly smug and middle class, in a Nigel Slater/Kirstie Allsopp way, but my son loves songs and nursery rhymes and Nick Cope's are a little less annoying than a lot of kids songs. My son has played them to repeatedly, can anyone recommend something similar?

If you like the Popcast, you might enjoy a musician called David Gibb. Has some incredibly fun and catchy songs and is great to see live!

Yuck. Find him quite repulsive really. I can see how his soft voice can be relaxing but he doesn't seem like a children-y person.

We went to his concert earlier this year & it was fantastic, we really enjoyed it and would definetly go again 😁

I grew up in Oxford and he and his brother were in a band called The Candyskins in the 1990s who were good but never quite made it.

I saw them loads of times as a teenager so when he came to our local garden centre about ten years ago I took the kids and after I told him how much I'd loved the candyskins as a teenager.

He behaved in the manner of some kind of global megastar who can't bring themselves to acknowledge a fan which - although I believe was designed to make me feel silly - had the effect of making him look like the most ridiculous person on earth.

Another school friend also met him and had the same experience.

Ah well, well fancied his brother in the candyskins anyway.

@Stressedoutmum27 same! We saw him live a few months ago and he was great.

I just really like his songwriting. Most of his songs have a message or something to learn. I teach year 1 and I used his plastic bags song during our eco topic. Kids loved it.

I particularly like “Ralph is a Rusty Robot”.

It’s a shame to read that Nick can be a bit of an arse in real life. I hope he isn’t like that with the kids he meets, as they wouldn’t realise he has a stage persona and could take it very personally.
