Please have a watch. Warm and uplifting tv. Some of the cast and writing team have learning disabilities. Sarah Gordy one of the leads is a fantastic advocate for people with a learning disability and is a really impressive woman.

I was looking for a thread on this. It is lovely but a bit tedious. Was also wondering who pays for their expensive house. That doesn't look like a Cumbrian house!

Just caught up on first two episodes. Was lovely and thought how great it is to have people with learning disabilities on screen in roles that are portraying them as everyday folk.

Lovely house too - thought that it's probably a bit of a stretch that they would have such a nice house as was under rhe impression that Lake District was pretty expensive. But it's tv land am allowing for a bit of artistic license and am looking forward to the rest of the series.

I liked it for what it is, relaxing, gentle TV. I think the Craig what’s his name from the royal family character is a bit annoying though but maybe I am missing something there! I like the way they don’t portray people with Down’s Syndrome as eternally happy and cheerful, a narrative which as a relative of someone with DS is really annoying! They have a range of emotions like anyone else! Agree about the actress that plays Katie, she is one to watch for sure, beautiful and talented.

What kind of houses do you think of as “Cumbrian” is it not muddy enough? 😂
Both characters work don’t they? Plus they’ll both get PPI and often people with disabilities will receive financial support from family. It looks like a normal 3 bed terrace to me.

Different coloured stone. And a slightly different style of building. My sister lives in Penrith and the stone is dark red. And further south in the lakes is slate/grey

I think some of it was filmed in Bollington/Adlington in Cheshire.

Cumbria is a big place. North of Lancaster and places in the Eden valley have stone that colour and there are all sorts of styles of houses in the County.

No idea about the colour of the house.
I thought it was interesting that they had a total view out the back, but the front was right on the Main Street.

Otherwise I quite enjoyed it.
The parents overstepping, and not knowing what their role was to be was interesting.
The couple working on their boundaries and communication could have been any newlywed couple.

I've binged watched it and loved it, shame there were only 6 episodes. It made me think a bit but was also just a lovely gentle programme. Craig Cash over played his part but I can see that a character like him was needed. I really hope there is another series.

Is anyone from the A word in it apart from Katie and Ralph?

Nat6999 · 10/10/2022 18:09

Ralph's mother is in it, she married Christopher Eccleston's character in The A Word. I binge watched it all last night & really enjoyed it.
