why do i get the feeling this is going to reduce me to a snivelling wreck very shortly.

the sight of him injecting himself matter of factly before launching into beautiful organ has already got to me...

cystic fibrosis is awful...

fuck, i really need to start paying more attention to my hair .

all i noticed was that he resembles his father much more than his mother, in the face, that is.

and that bach can be such a bitch to sing.

Heathcliffscathy · 24/01/2008 21:59

oh ffs am blubbing now.

some people have a quiet strength, utterly, that is too strong even to have a voice.

my husband is like that.

people would think it was me.

but i was only the canvas over the shelter of his strength.

if you had any second thoughts about organ donation, think again!

he has that face where they are about to become men but still such boys....his face breaks my heart.

he reminds me a lot of my dh when he was young in pics...

i'm truly crying now.

what an incredible person!

i haven't cried this much since, 'the boy whose skin fell off'.

bobbinogsnib · 24/01/2008 22:13

What a lovely young man he is.

I, too was afraid that he might die, especially as they kept showing still photos of him. Checked online in the adverts to make sure i could watch the end - don't want him to die

I remember the 'boy whose skin fell off', that program was amzing but so so incredibly sad, both my dh and i were in floods of tears

PaulaYatesBiggestFan · 24/01/2008 22:18

yes boy whose skin fell of broke my heart

Janni · 24/01/2008 22:18

Didn't know whether to watch this as my DD aged 3 has CF and sometimes it's nice to remain ignorant about the future. I'm SO glad I watched it though. What an AMAZING boy, as inspiration to everyone. Reminds us to make the most of our life and quit moaning. I liked his mum too, weird hair or no!!

PaulaYatesBiggestFan · 24/01/2008 22:18

i hope alex goes far!

PaulaYatesBiggestFan · 24/01/2008 22:19

she was lovely his mum very youthful seemimg

miobombino · 24/01/2008 22:26

Oh God...Sophable your last post...just what I was thinking. (I have 3 boys + girl like Alex's family - oldest ds 14 and beautiful man/boy).

dh out tonight (would not usually countenance sob-fests such as this) - so I watched it.

But truly uplifting. It must take incredible courage to be the parents of a boy like this, and to be the victim of such a cruel disease.

expatinscotland · 24/01/2008 22:28

didn't notice his mum's hair, tbh.

wonder if alex will allow himself to go on the transplant list soon.

after all, it's his choice now.

but what, what a person!

'the boy whose skin fell off' should be mandatory viewing for everyone.

wow! seen it twice.

gigglewitch · 24/01/2008 22:42

Really good programme. glad i watched
hope we see more of alex on tv.

multitaskingmania · 25/01/2008 09:26

This prog truly humbled me and inspired me, what an amazing young man. I have a lung disease which has the same lung probs as CF and it made me realise I spend too much time feeling sorry for myself and not enough just living life as much to the full as I can possibly do. wow....I wish alex all the best. lovely mum too!

Butkin · 25/01/2008 10:40

We thought it was a fantastic show and we don't normally watch these real life dramas.

The fact that he was so musically gifted and got the whole school behind him due to his charm made the programme.

We thought Eton came out of it brilliantly - with the pupils and teachers but also the way they support him with his nurse, scooter etc. All his chums seemed so charming and self assured in a nice way.

We did think his mum's hair was beyond wierd - hopefully after watching the show she'll be off to the hairdressers double quick.

His brothers were a bit strange though - very brideshead revisited.

hannahsaunt · 25/01/2008 12:31

I thought his parents were amazing, actually being able to let him go to boarding school to take advantage of his gifts and opportunities - not sure I would be that brave. Watched on the edge of my seat - I have two nieces with CF and I kind of wanted to see what we are in for. It was awful and inspiring; good reminder that there is a lot of life beyond the disease but it's such a wicked, horrible thing to have to bear. Hope he does well.

Janni · 29/01/2008 23:13

BEING REPEATED NOW ON CHANNEL 4. WATCH IF YOU CAN !

Janni · 29/01/2008 23:15

Bump. It's REALLY good.

DiamandaGalas · 29/01/2008 23:18

expat, you are so spot on by referring to the boy whose skin fell off however although similar in subject the doc by patrick collerton was far superior!
