The Our Girl Addicts Thread 65 Stay focused, Stay alert, Stay alive and carry on....spying

We started to follow Our Girl back in 2014 and although there will be no further series, we do revisit from time to time. We have watched all seven series of Soldier Soldier to keep up our military terminology and have galloped through all three series of The Musketeers. There was a definite connection between Our Girl and The Musketeers in the delightful form of Luke Pasqualino. We have now agreed to watch the old BBC series of Spooks and are currently in the middle of series 2. Please join in if this grabs your attention.

The MI5 angels are singing again.

Rhubarb01 · 27/10/2022 21:56

Danny is glowering because he thinks he knows that Zoe's fiance is not to be trusted.

eejittwo · 27/10/2022 21:57

Oops - does Danny tell about Will’s brother.

Ilovelblue · 27/10/2022 21:58

What will Danny do about the photos?

OP posts:
eejittwo · 27/10/2022 21:59

Well, well, well.

Rhubarb01 · 27/10/2022 22:00

Will it be happy ever after or won't it? We will have to find out next week.

Are we back to Wednesday for next week?

Ilovelblue · 27/10/2022 22:02

Wednesday is fine for me.

OP posts:
eejittwo · 27/10/2022 22:06

Might not manage Wednesday but next week is pretty much a write-off, what with one thing or another. Will catch up if I don’t make it.

Magi84 · 27/10/2022 22:11

OK for Wednesday too. Good episode again a lot of dialogue though so I spend more time concentrating than posting. Not sure about happy ever after for Zoe . Still dodgy both boyfriend and brother.

Ilovelblue · 30/10/2022 23:21

Did we watch SAS Rogue Heroes? I fell asleep during the programme so either it didn't catch my attention or I was just tired. What about anyone else?

I watched it and the 2nd episode on iplayer. I laughed at one point when there was a scene that reminded me of a well-known Elvis moment. I think it's entertaining in an Inglorious Basterds kind of way. Of course, far fetched as it seems, I do believe a lot of it is based on true anecdotes. I think it was very ad hoc in the way it was formed. Not sure if the French agent is real or made up just to add a token female into the mix. I will watch the rest over the week, and see what I think by the end.

Ilovelblue · 31/10/2022 00:08

Should I watch the first episode again then do you think Rhu?

OP posts:
Rhubarb01 · 31/10/2022 14:07

Might be worth trying again and seeing what you think ilove. Idon't think we're going to find ourselves rooting for them all in quite the same way as OG. We might not even like them much, but there's a fair amount of truth in it. It seems very much aimed at men who like a certain style of military adventure, think Strike Back, and it's in that ilk at present. I noticed no one has started a thread on it yet, so I'm guessing it's not MN's usual cup of tea.

eejittwo · 31/10/2022 15:33

When I was (much) younger , I read a factual book about the start of the SAS. I haven’t managed to watch it yet, but I shall, and let you know what I think.

Rhubarb01 · 01/11/2022 10:45

I'm 4 episodes in and reasonably entertained, but I don't think this is going to be watchalong material. If they'd used as many bombs as the F-bombs they drop, the war would have been over by Christmas! I listen to a history podcast and they reviewed it. Some parts and characterisations are good and based on real events, some not so accurate and it's obviously reinvented for a 21st century audience. Main gripe seemed to be the depiction of David Stirling, who was apparently polite, charming and hardly ever swore! All in all, entertainment based on history, but probably not really us.

Magi84 · 01/11/2022 13:55

Thanks for the heads up Rhu I am going to watch first episode but was wondering if it was going to go all "gung ho" having read some comments, by people who should know, and they seem to hold views similar to yours. Probably not watchalong material.

Ilovelblue · 02/11/2022 20:55

Are we ready for episode 5?

OP posts:
Magi84 · 02/11/2022 20:58

Ready here

Ilovelblue · 02/11/2022 21:00

About to press play and watch the recap.

Pressing play

Rhubarb01 · 02/11/2022 21:01

Just started. On the shooting range.

Ilovelblue · 02/11/2022 21:02

Danny and Colin are on target practise. I thought Colin was a geek, didn't know he was allowed firearms.

OP posts:
Rhubarb01 · 02/11/2022 21:02

Danny looks like a man who is suffering.

Ilovelblue · 02/11/2022 21:03

A training course for the apprentice MI5 agents whilst Zoe is smooching in bed with dodgy boyfriend. Looks as if she should be running the course but has better things to do.

OP posts:
Magi84 · 02/11/2022 21:04

Yes Danny obviously reflecting on past events
