Can anyone debunk Sally Morgan, 'Star Psychic'??

I have just watched her give a reading to Rhona Cameron, and she said SO much about her that was absolutely spot on, scarily so.

Am I being completely naive, or do her production team debrief her beforehand? She claims she doesn't know who she is going to read for until 5 mins before .

Does anyone else even watch this, or is to be added to my guilty TV pleasures?

what channel is it on?

cottonflee · 16/01/2008 23:24

I heard her on Steve Wright (radio 2) last Tuesday, she swears she isn't briefed. but, she was spot on when she reqad for steve and his crew live on air.

Given that there is no such thing as "psychics", I think we can deduce that a certain amount of educated guesswork was used, yes.

Have you seen the Derren Brown thing where he gives everyone the same printed "reading"?

Maidamess · 17/01/2008 19:38

Pelvic, its on ITV2 on a Wednesday night.

Derren Brown explains how psychics read a person's body language very cleverly. It's all bollocks.

Maidamess · 17/01/2008 19:42

Cornsilk, I am as sceptical as the next person, but she names names, dead relatives of the celeb having the reading.

She claims she doesn't know who she is going to see, and the premise of the whole programme rests on this. If she is a fraud, she is a very plausible one!

The fact that she does it on the TV makes me even more sceptical about her.

I suspect she probably does know who she is going to see. If the subject is famous, it would be fairly easy to research details of their life.

One of the main tactics used by 'psychics' in general is cold reading: making vague guesses that are likely to apply to large numbers of people, then using feedback from the subject to make their guesses more specific. Often the audience is left with the impression that the guesses made by the 'psychic' were more precise or specific than they actually were.

have you ever seen john edward?
had a similar type of show
he was good i thought...

trulymadlydeeply · 17/01/2008 21:04

Gordon Smith, the Glaswegian hairdresser was spooky on a programme I watched. Doesn't accept amy money either!

UnquietDad · 18/01/2008 00:57

What's more likely? That they are very clever and manipulative people using trickery, or that the laws of science and the world as we know them are all wrong?

IndigoMoon · 18/01/2008 03:02

wellllllllll i watched one of the first series and she was phoning people randomly in a phone box but ........ the woman who answered the phone was an extra!!

i recognised her from big brothers big mouth and also the real hustle!!! and then she was on that! in fact thats when i realised the real hustle may not be that real either which is why i had remembered her face

so i reckon set up!

cornsilk · 18/01/2008 06:41

Interesting!

ernest · 18/01/2008 06:53

if she's such a great psychic, surely she can just 'see' in advance who she's going to see?

PortAndLemon · 18/01/2008 08:22

Have you ever seen Derren Brown or Marc Salem live, though? They do exactly the same sort of thing and are quite up-front that there's no psychic abilities involved, just a knowledge of psychology.

I think it's quite possible (not sure how likely, but possible) that someone could do the same kind of thing Derren Brown has trained himself to do, but instinctively. If you could do that you might well believe you were psychic, but it doesn't mean that you actually are.
