I’ve heard so much about this movie as it’s a Blumhouse movie and I am obsessed with them. I’ve seen almost all of them.

Anybody seen this movie and if so, what are your ratings out of 10 please?

1/10 being not worth watching and 10/10 being definitely worth watching?

Thanks! 😊

If you're about to put Midsommar on I'd suggest having a bottle of wine on standby, you may want it later.

And pay close attention to any drawings/murals you see.

Thank you everyone for your feedback!

Because I’ve read the Google reviews and a large percentage of people are saying it’s rubbish, not worth watching, waste of 2 and a half hours etc.

But after reading your reviews I am totally sold.

Going to watch it right now!

I wouldn’t place any value on that. A lot of the general public will happily keep paying to watch all of the Marvel and Fast & Furious films.

oneofusgobble · 09/07/2022 19:21

@ZealAndArdour some of the Marvel movies are fantastic- Endgame, Ragnarok, Black Panther.

ShreddedMarmalade · 09/07/2022 19:23

I thought it was excellent but would never watch it again as it was really disturbing! Such a sense of foreboding. It played on my mind for weeks after I saw it.

Margotshypotheticaldog · 09/07/2022 19:29

I enjoyed it sort of. Enjoyed is maybe the wrong word,, but it did stay with me. Florence Pugh was brilliant, so distressed and broken. I'm pretty sure I missed the hidden messages.....I may have been hiding behind a pillow....
I watched hereditary with my mouth hanging open , Toni Colette was A MAZE ING
anyone care to elaborate on the hidden messages?

I've just NC'd for this as I post a lot, but I absolutely adore this film, to the extent that I've had 2 tattoos based on the film. 😂

I love it. And once you've finished this film you must watch the original version of the Wicker Man if you haven't seen it.

Ooh, what are the tattoos?

I love it - 11/10.

oneofusgobble · 09/07/2022 20:05

@JesusInTheCabbageVan I've got a tattoo of the maypole and of the burning triangle temple 😄

JesusInTheCabbageVan · 09/07/2022 20:17

Perfect Grin the maypole dance is my favourite scene, especially when she starts speaking Swedish. If you haven't seen the director's cut, it's well worth a watch. There's a whole extra ceremony by a lake at night which they cut out!

Pamela83 · 09/07/2022 20:21

I thought it was pretty bad, 3/10. And I usually like weird films, a bit of horror, and art films, it should have been right down my street, but I found the first half boring and the second half silly. I think it’s a love it or hate it film. Enjoy if you watch it, and let us know what you thought :)

SpaghettiNotCourgetti · 09/07/2022 20:30

10/10. It's worth it just for the beauty of each shot. It's so aesthetically pleasing - I love the colours and the artwork of it.

TheMarzipanDildo · 09/07/2022 20:50

I really want to watch this but I’m scared

Don't be scared, it's a beautiful film. There's about 10 scary minutes at the beginning, 5 mins of gore in the middle, and then a possibly scary/weird 5 mins at the end, which you might not find scary at alll after what's happened 😄

womma · 10/07/2022 09:59

It’s a brilliant film, once you’ve seen it you won’t forget it. Makes The Wicker Man look like an episode of Postman Pat.
Have a cushion handy to hide behind if you’re squeamish.
Florence Pugh is wonderful in the main role, and the casually shitty way her boyfriend and his friends treat her is horribly familiar. Oh, it’s good!

Honourofgrayskull · 10/07/2022 10:09

Love this film so much. Its like a beautiful fairy tale with some gruesome bits (like all good fairy tales!)
It really got in my head and i was thinking about it for ages after watching it. Love the attention to detail.

maisieandvicks · 27/07/2022 20:40

So I just finished watching and I have to say, it was much better than I thought it would be. I loved the symbolism and how it matches so closely with Dani’s story. It essentially is Dani’s story and obviously her destiny to eventually become the May Queen. Her bf was a dick so there was no sympathy from me when she chose him to be the final sacrifice. There was a lot that is still a bit confusing to me, hence why I am currently reading the movie explanation now but, all in all, I was pleasantly surprised.

And yes, I knew that it was a director I liked but couldn’t remember the name, it’s Ari Aster, the same person behind the movie Hereditary which I absolutely loved.

I’d give it an easy 7/10, maybe even 8.

But the movie I absolutely loved and is an easy 10/10 for me, was Mother!

Anybody who hasn’t seen this movie, go and watch it now! It’s incredible. I might even watch it again, I enjoyed it that much.

Any other movie suggestions would be great! Thanks everyone! 😊

The original Wickerman is my favourite film of all time but I found Midsommer VERY disturbing- but also quite hammy towards the end.
There are some truly gruesome parts.

Wouldloveanother · 27/07/2022 20:45

I loved the imagery but am I the only one not to have found it particularly disturbing? I do have a high tolerance for such films though. The only film that really shook me was Martyrs.

SeptimusWarrenSmith · 27/07/2022 20:50

How funny; I thought martyrs was ridiculous and try-hard.

I liked midsommar though. Were a couple of scenes played for laughs?

The turnaround for Dani at the end was a powerful moment.

Much better than the Wicker Man which has always left me cold - makes me think of Clannad.

Wouldloveanother · 27/07/2022 20:53

Ohhh no. It’s a masterpiece that gutted me emotionally for a few days!

ParvuliThankYouDebbie · 27/07/2022 20:59

I think you will love Men, an Alex Garland film. Particularly if you like analysing films rather than taking them at face value. I loved it.

Maybe you might also like St Maud, The Ritual and Amulet.

I’m off to watch mother!

LaingsAcidTab · 27/07/2022 21:02

9/10 for me. Aster is an intelligent director and while it was quite simply horrifying on one level, it had a powerful subtext too, which threw the events into a different light.

AnyFucker · 27/07/2022 21:05

If you liked this film, another rather strange and beautiful and gruesome film is Walkabout.

Made in 1971 it is an oldie but goodie

Fladdermus · 27/07/2022 21:09

I didn't have the foggiest what was going throug most of it.

ParvuliThankYouDebbie · 27/07/2022 21:25

You might also like Ghost Stories, The Lighthouse and The Witch.

thenightsky · 27/07/2022 22:24

Midsommer is one of the best horrors I've ever seen. And I've seen a lot!
