What age would you let your kids watch it?

13ish for the first series but the latest series is really quite graphic and horrible so 15

NCforgoodreason · 02/07/2022 23:24

Season 4 definitely isn't for younger than mid teens! It's very graphic and even made my stomach turn.

The other seasons I would say 8+

SummerPuddings · 02/07/2022 23:31

Hmm
This is the problem when they've watched series 1-3 they obviously want to watch 4

My son has seen it, he’s 11. Except we’ve fallen off this last one as it’s been dull/boring and we just couldn’t be bothered!

But overall I think these questions are like saying ‘when would you let your child to the shops alone?’ Depends on the child! If they’re sensitive and easily scared then I would discourage. If they’re not then I’d say it’s fine within limits - obviously I wouldn’t be watching it with a 5 year old.

My ds10 has watched it. Survived. No questions. Just broke the news he's got 2 years to wait for the next one!

Good points.

The bone breaking bits are gruesome but that's about it. My 9 year old has not watched it but has seen a clip with Vecna and thought it was silly as it's so obviously make up/costume. I think maybe 12 would be ok.

LoveBugBride · 03/07/2022 00:05

Just finished it with my ten year old. He watched the other three seasons this year and wanted to watch this one too.

The bone bit I couldn't watch but he was fine throughout.

SickSadWorId · 03/07/2022 00:31

I think it depends. I'm a bit of a wimp when it comes to horror films, but didn't have to hide behind my cushion once! It's quite gruesome but in a fairly unrealistic, ridiculous way.

It isn't very jumpy or suspenseful or atmospheric, things I don't cope with. There isn't much psychological terror.

I've been much more freaked out jumpy films like Woman in Black (12A), or disturbed by horribly sad films like Elephant Man (12A) which I watched when I was 10, or Shindlers List.

My 14 watched season 4 with no problem and she is quite sensitive. We both cried when certain characters died but that's it.

However I wouldn't let a primary age child watch it, but from 11+ I would judge based on the child.

SummerPuddings · 03/07/2022 09:41

Thanks so much. I stopped watching after season 1 as its not my thing.

Very grounded 12 year old is seemingly fine with and has been watching with dad / friends.

My 9 yr old is desperate to watch. I'm saying no. Sounds correct from your comments.

Did he watch season 4?

My kids are 11 and 9.

My eldest is about to start secondary and is DESPERATE to watch it. All his friends have, apparently even his primary teacher told him he should (don't get me started on this.)

A couple of my friends say they regret letting their kids watch, whilst others have been ok... He doesn't mind gory-ish things, Marvel films, Derek Landry books etc.

If the ST things mania holds, is he going to be the only one in his new class who hasn't watched it... And is that even a good enough reason to let him?

(Then I have to tell my very mature, sensible 9 yr old why he's not allowed.)
