Anyone watched this? I found it interesting to see the comedians in their dressing rooms, particularly to see how nervous many of them were.

I've only watched the first episode (then cancelled prime, thank you cost of living) really like it, so interesting, and love how supportive they were of each other.

I've dipped in and out. I enjoyed the first episode. It was interesting to see how nervous Seann Walsh was, and how much the whole strictly thing really affected him.

Its a good concept for a show. I think my interest in each episode depends on who the performers are, but I'd like to see it get another series.

Thanks for recommending this, really enjoying it.

KurriKawari · 29/06/2022 18:13

@thebellagio Sean has done a one hour special for YouTube in which he talks about the strictly experience. I know he isn't everyone's cup of tea, but the routine is really interesting and worth a watch.

I found the advert for it a bit cringe, with its laughter track that made me question the authenticity. But perhaps that was misleading, by the sounds of it.

I haven't seen the advert but I'm guessing the laughter is from when they are on stage? They do perform in front of an audience.

It was fascinating to see how nervous even really seasoned comedians were before going out on stage. Made me feel a bit better about my nerves before a work presentation this week. I loved how supportive of each other they were backstage

Unihorn · 07/07/2022 20:54

Bit late to the party but didn't realise it had been put on Prime yet. I'm finding it really interesting so far seeing them outside the stage environment. Jimmy Carr's support of Seann Walsh came across as really genuine, I read his book recently where he talked a lot about mental health, he's so different to his onstage personality.

I was listening to Katherine Ryan on the Parenting Hell podcast and she sounded lovely. Am looking forward to watching this as it seems really interesting

TeeBee · 08/07/2022 06:50

She is lovely. A very down-to-earth, kind lady. Thanks OP, I've not seen this so I'll watch it.

Katherine is that you?! Agree fab show!

OneFrenchEgg · 08/07/2022 06:53

We Seann Walsh live in a tiny theatre after the strictly thing and it was all about it. It really had damaged him unless he was a very good actor making the impact all up for material.
I don't like Katherine Ryan after seeing her live otherwise this would be good.

NashvilleQueen · 08/07/2022 07:09

I have never warmed to her and those adverts she does for Wowcher have made things worse.

I didn't watch motherland for about two years because someone told me she was in it (having mixed up her name with Diane Morgan!)

BJBeGone · 08/07/2022 07:12

If you think you're not fond of her I'd recommend listening to one or two of her podcasts. She's the real Katherine and it's just like she is chatting with a friend about current affairs.

She had a programme too which the name escapes me which we binge watched. Ok it didn't get a second season but it was good.

FredaFox · 08/07/2022 07:12

I've now watched about 3-4 episodes, I really enjoyed the interaction and support between the comedians. It was good they have a mix of someone early in career to a big name.
Was thrilled Frankie Boyle us in it. I know he isn't everyone's cup of tea but I've seen him live and he's fantastic. To see him rehearsing and bring vulnerable when his act (which is an act) can be so controversial was interesting

SnowyLamb · 08/07/2022 07:15

There's something about Katherine Ryan that makes me really uncomfortable. I don't enjoy her comedy at all and I can't put my finger on why.

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 08/07/2022 07:16

Dh and I really enjoyed it. What I thought was interesting was she managed to bring Sue Perkins back to stand up, and Seann Walsh did it even though he was clearly terrified.

This surely means they must like her to do this for her. So she must be quite a nice person.

I think like many comedians her comedy is very different to her day to day personality
She's a lot harder and direct/ controversial on stage

Yes, I have a very odd response to her. I can see that many of her jokes are funny, that she's very accurate in her observations, but I don't enjoy her performance at all, it makes me squirm.

OneFrenchEgg · 08/07/2022 07:27

On stage the first half was ok , although she did the whole not having to look beautiful routine while there had been a massive airbrushed publicity shot of her while the curtain was down, so air brushed it looked nothing like her, which was a bit daft. Then she commented on how much fun the idiot group of women next to us were having, chatted to them, while they had literally shouted and screeched (way more than any other live comedy I've been to) and talked over her. Then the second half was all the shtick about her clever English kid, which I've heard so often and to be honest if I want to hear 'hilarious' kid anecdotes I'd go see Michael Macintyre. It's not funny, other peoples kids are boring even when their antics are made up for comedic effect.
