OP posts:

I wonder how many times this has happened?

Romeiswheretheheartis · 06/06/2022 22:22

This was incredible. The families in Sicily who swapped their girls back were amazing. I felt very sorry for the UK lady who had had no inkling that she might not be biologically related to her family - to find that out so late in life.

CHiSOCG · 06/06/2022 22:24

I felt very sorry for Jacky but she looks so much like her real sister!!!

and Richard seemed delighted to meet Rosemary. I just loved the way they spoke to each other! So in sync on their first meeting.

SwedishEdith · 06/06/2022 23:28

The Sicilian story was amazing! I suppose both mothers must feel like they are both their daughters.

I didn't see who Jackie's biological siblings were but, can you imagine finding out everything you thought you knew was wrong?

TypicallyTopically · 07/06/2022 10:28

I really felt for Jacqui. She said she and her family had no idea and she idolised her dad. She seemed so upset whereas the other lady was accepting I suppose as she'd been brought up with the knowledge.

awaynboilyurheid · 07/06/2022 10:30

Thought the Sicilian mothers were amazing, it must have been so traumatic but with professional advice they have managed it so well. I liked at the end the two girls you could see how alike their biological mothers they were and hope they really thanked that nursery nurse for pointing it out or it would have remained a mystery.
Yes was happy for Rosemary, it seemed to bring her some peace to really know what happened. It was amazing that her mum knew she wasn’t her baby but when no one else listened she just got on and loved her.
I expect she was told, it is your baby now be quiet , but somehow she knew even saying out loud, I wonder if that’s your family to her years later.
Hope Jackie can make peace with it too and meet her, I think she was so terrified Richard would think he wasn’t his sister anymore, I thought Nicky was very good with her during their segment.

CHiSOCG · 07/06/2022 23:10

It’s ‘Jacky’ not ‘Jacqui’

AlternativePerspective · 07/06/2022 23:20

I think telling Jacky was morally wrong.

It’s very sad for the other woman, but tbh I think the only thing she should have been told is that she definitely wasn’t her family’s biological child.

But to potentialy destroy someone’s life by telling them their whole life was a lie is wrong IMO.

I wouldn’t want to know.

And I wouldn’t want anything to do with anyone who claimed to be my biological family.

I watched it on STV Player. It's under Long Lost Family Specials on the ITV Hub, but for some reason I could only see that on my iPad and not on the laptop.

It was a lot for Jacky. Especially as she’s so close to Richard. I think Nicky did handle it well but the poor woman was in complete shock.

I agree. So sad for her.

ToffeeNotCoffee · 09/06/2022 10:00

Was it me or did they not really detail how the swap happened ?

toomuchlaundry · 09/06/2022 10:06

@ToffeeNotCoffee wasn't it because they were in a bomb shelter at the maternity home, and they brought the wrong baby back to the mums

I agree - she seemed very fragile person emotionally - it must have been a terrible shock for her.

LuluBlakey1 · 10/06/2022 17:26

I thought it was telling in the update at the end when it said Rosemary and Richard were taking things very slowly and that Jacky was even closer to her brother, Richard. There was no mention of Jacky's biological family and any relationship developing with them. No suggestion they or Jacky wanted it to.
It could be that a way to move forward would be for both families, like the ones in Scicily, to bond and become closer. That way no one loses and everyone gains. I imagine that is easier said than done but must be worth trying. I wondered if that bond between Rosemary and Richard will be allowed to develop or if his bond with Jacky will be too great a pull if she is not able to adapt and he feels disloyal. Very difficult for everyone.

Emotionalsupportviper · 11/06/2022 12:00

If Jacky's biological family don't want a relationship with her it might be terribly wounding (of course it may be the other way round, or mutual). I think Rosemary is an incredible person - effectively bringing up her younger siblings after their parents' early death, and still con

Like others I thought the two Sicilian families were amazing - what a wonderful example of what can be achieved if the love and will is there. I am sure I can remember reading some years ago about a similar thing happening with two Spanish babies, and the fathers wanting to swap them back and the mothers saying no chance. I haven't been able to find that article (so I may be mistaken), but this is interesting

Another heartening one of families loving both children.
