Just caught the end of this. Am I missing something? Was the premise, ‘we’ve made our house a shit hole, now come and sort it out for us’?

I love it - it's just so gentle and wholesome, and the presenters seem like such nice, kindhearted people. And special shoutout to Asher's arms... sigh.

The one thing that always annoys me, though, is that they say the team has 24hrs to sort out whatever the issues are. It even shows the homeowners packing a little suitcase as of they're leaving overnight. But the actual filming seems to be all one day, from early morning to evening. So, maybe 10/12hrs at a push, but certainly not 24hrs, as far as I can make out.

They need a chemistry teacher to sort out their narrative and cleaning techniques though. If Maxine does her bicarb and vinegar mix with narration of " the vinegar is acidic and breaks down..." again I will scream! Er no, the vinegar and bicarb a tally neutralise each other so you are losing any benefit of the acid/alkali. I can only assume that it is the abrasive effect of any unrelated bicarb that has any cleaning effect!

I stumbled across an episode some weeks ago. I was horrified that people can be laughing and joking with the presenter whilst living in fucking shitholes full of clutter and filth. How difficult is it to tidy up and sort clean washing from dirty. They all looked like they needed a good bath

I sometimes wonder if the programme makers add an extra layer of filth, just for effect. 😀

DaBlackCatsAreDaBestCats · 10/03/2024 15:25

@ageingdisgracefully Somehow I doubt it. They really do live like that. Find it fascinating how a household can operate in such disorder and filth

howdyho · 10/03/2024 15:31

I'm guessing they start the work very early so the family move out the night before?
Showing the world your manky oven and dirty toilet, no shame!😂

DaBlackCatsAreDaBestCats · 10/03/2024 15:39

Shocking and they are laughing. Sheer filth and total disorganisation. The one episode I partly saw had the husband sitting in the hovel and laughing about the lack of domesticity of his wife. I was gobsmacked. Mind you, he could’ve got off his arse

ageingdisgracefully · 10/03/2024 15:51

It's strangely compelling. I wonder how the participants cope once the team have left? Do they revert back to their old habits I wonder?

howdyho · 10/03/2024 16:27

I expect they try at first, they show how they've got on a week later not a month😏

I can't bear the constant mention of 'baking soda'. We don't have that easily available in the UK. Surely she means bicarbonate of soda? I wish they'd say the name correctly as then people know what to buy!

It's available, I have loads of the stuff, it's just another name for bicarb.

Strangely addictive is perfect description! They have helped several people with disabilities so that they can manage better..if you want to be considered just write to show - I did when I thought we were getting a Ukrainian family and was panicking about moving furniture round which is something the show is brilliant at rethinking. And it certainly galvanises me into rushing off to clean things!

evilharpy · 26/03/2024 12:00

I watched this for the first time yesterday, it was the episode with Safiyah, a disabled lady who struggled to bend so couldn't get at her washing machine etc or clean. I thought the changes they made were very thoughtfully done to make things manageable for her, and the lady who did the cleaning spent the most time on things they knew she couldn't reach herself. It was really nice.

Hi,used to love watching clean it fix it for the advice and tips from tommy, asher and marine.I know tommy has had health issues but that irritating media wannabe spoils the whole show.He wants to be the central figure but he's not skilled at anything.Big mistake.

Gaffer1 · 06/03/2025 14:43

Ps,I was talking about Mark wright spoiling the show now totally.

Rummikub · 06/03/2025 14:47

I just commented on the SYLO thread about mark wright! Why have they brought him in?! It totally confused me.

I'm watching series 4 and they only do one day Maxine and one day the diy. They hardly do ANYTHING anymore!
