Comedy. Anyone watching? I watched it all over 2 nights and really enjoyed it.

I liked it. It had the potential to be better, but it was entertaining. I binge watched it all in one go.

3teens2cats · 12/03/2022 18:50

Entertaining but not as funny as I had hoped

kennelmaid · 12/03/2022 19:00

It was funny, but felt a bit forced at times.

cushioncovers · 12/03/2022 19:28

I agree it could have been funnier. I like Tim Key I think he plays comedy really well.

Watched the first couple . I love Daisy May Cooper .

Inkanta · 12/03/2022 19:55

Not that funny really.

Plasmodesmata · 12/03/2022 19:56

I watched the first one but it didn't make me laugh, so I probably won't bother with any more.

Paperdolly · 12/03/2022 19:58

I was a bit disappointed and am yet to watch the second one. I’m not rushing.

AuntFlorence · 12/03/2022 20:13

I enjoyed it, but it is nowhere near as funny as Ghosts or Horrible Histories. Or before that, Blackadder. Or even a lot of the history related jokes in Dr Who. There was a lot of missed opportunities for some really great history related jokes, so that is a shame. I would have liked to see it be a bit more multidimensional and have a bit more history in the humour if that makes sense?

AuntFlorence · 12/03/2022 20:14

It was smile/wry laugh funny not ROFL

Paperdolly · 13/03/2022 07:29

Watched the second one last night. Love Daisy May Cooper but this is too slow in humour for me. I seemed to have needed to watch a lot of faff before a joke came up. I’m not going to watch any more.

Inkanta · 13/03/2022 08:55

Tried to watch a bit more. It tries too hard to be funny and it's not. Daisy May, who I love, tries her best too. So I try, the programme tries and Daisy May tries ... Confused

lugeforlife · 13/03/2022 09:10

Mistakenly watched with Dd2 as we thought it would be a bit Blackadder/Ghosts. Not ideal language wise.....

A couple of bits made us smile but no more than that. Am disappointed as thought it had potential as a concept.

species5618 · 14/03/2022 08:44

AuntFlorence
I still smile at the Matt Smith episode where the team were in Victorian London. They asked directions from a young urchin who gave them a very precise route to their destination. His name was Thomas Thomas.

AuntFlorence · 14/03/2022 17:01

Oh I missed that reference @species5618 if I rewatch them again I will be sure to look out for it!
That's what I mean though, there is a layer cake of historical humour which there is the obvious story line, but also so much more as in blackadder, ghosts/horrible histories and lots of other historic set programs. I think you need to have writers who can appeal both to the modern comedic audience and the history buffs at the same time, and everyone with a degree more or less knowledge either way.

I also think there were some great feminist jokes that could have been chucked in. I liked Daisy May, but I felt like she was carrying a lot. The side characters were not utilised as well as they could have been which is a shame

Fernsinthegarden · 14/03/2022 17:04

Same as everyone else really, I wanted to love it but felt that so much of the comedy was left to a few key players. I’ve just finished the Detectorists and this was supposed to fill the void but I’m still bereft 🥺

SausagePourHomme · 14/03/2022 17:24

I loved it, on my third rewatch. Daisy is so brilliant and the ending very satisfying.

Those shoehorned historic references in dr who and the like make me cringe inside out. So "arent we clever." This one created an authentic mood. Not that we need to compare!

cushioncovers · 14/03/2022 17:56

I keep laughing at the character Gideon saying "it becunts with a c"

Waterfordaston · 14/03/2022 18:05

It made me laugh out loud. “He’s dead and the cause of death is his innards being all over the place. They’re meant to be on the inside.”Grin

Blondeshavemorefun · 14/03/2022 18:09

its on my planner

HandlebarLadyTash · 14/03/2022 18:17

Watched it with the 14 yr old and we liked it rather than loved it. The main characters were great together would have liked there to be less swearing as the younger child was gaming in the next room & we had to keep reducing the volume.

By the end I really liked it and I hope there's another series..

The Gibbons stuff is slow burning - every Alan Partridge book/podcast I've initially felt lukewarm about but ended up loving to the point I find every single sentence hilarious!

Tim Key is always great and love DMC - although the highlight for me was Daniel Rigby (and Reece Sheersmith, of course!)

0blio · 18/03/2022 22:59

I thought it was great and loved the way the characters developed. Lots of well known faces and a good story.
