Harlan Coben series on Netflix

I'm really enjoying all the Harlan Coben crime mini-series on Netflix. They are all like puzzles that and although some have a bit of nonsensical twists, I have found them all really entertaining. Does anyone else on here enjoy them and wants to discuss?

So far my favourite were:

"The Woods",
"Safe",
"Gone for Good".

I liked the beginning of "The Stranger" a lot but I thought the conclusion was a bit idiotic.

"Stay Close" was the weakest of all.

I'm about to watch "The Innocent".

Are there any others I'm missing?

I liked The Stranger because it was set near where I live! Just started watching Safe - it seems a bit familiar, and I'm wondering if we watched it when it first came out!

I really liked "Safe"

I think they're entertaining but I do find them a bit simple and formulaic. I think once you have seen one you can work out the others. I found the French one , Gone for good, the most interesting one and seemed more 'serious'. I got bored of them after that though.

If you have Sky I really recommend 'The Five'. That one is my favourite of all the Harlan Coben series'

XelaM · 04/03/2022 21:30

@RubertRoo Ohh, I have Sky and I'll watch that after I finish "The Innocent"

@WoozieFloozie I do know what you mean by "formulaic" and some of the plot twists are utter nonsense, but it's still very entertaining. "Gone for Good" and "The Woods" were the best that I have seen. "Safe" has a sensible(-ish) conclusion that kind of explains the whole story, but some of it (like the location of the daughter) made zero sense. [Trying to be vague to as nit to spoil it for the PP who hasn't yet seen it.]

"Stay Close" is just garbage from start to finish and I guessed who the murderer was pretty early on.

I agree about ‘The Five’. Better than the Netflix ones and actually one of my favourite things I’ve ever watched. Loved it.

WoozieFloozie · 05/03/2022 08:25

@XelaM The Woods is one I haven't got round to yet so I might give it a go Smile

TwoBigNoisyBoys · 05/03/2022 08:34

Placemarking to come back to 😊

polkadotpjs · 05/03/2022 09:23

Marking place. Started stay close but DH didn't like it so I'll watch the rest alone

Dontfuckingsaycheese · 05/03/2022 09:26

The Five is fabulous! I ❤️ Harlen Corben. What’s that new one? The one with the night club in the middle of nowhere? That was a goody!

Dontfuckingsaycheese · 05/03/2022 09:27

It was Stay Close Blush

Dontfuckingsaycheese · 05/03/2022 09:28

I didn’t get to the end of Gone for Good - will give it another try!

PuppyPowerTool · 05/03/2022 09:34

Oh, I enjoyed stay close, so if that was the worst, then I'll really enjoy the others mentioned, thank you!

workshy44 · 05/03/2022 16:30

I thought the Innocent was the best one. Thought Gone for Good was the worst but it was a brilliant book so not sure how they managed to mess it up

XelaM · 05/03/2022 16:54

Oops I just realised that I confused "The Woods" with another mini-series I have seen. I haven't actually watched it Blush don't know how that happened, so please ignore my recommendations of it. Haven't actually seen it myself Grin Oops.

But I'm sure it's good 👍

@workshy44 Oh why didn't you like "Gone for Good"? I must say I haven't read the book, so had nothing to compare it to, but I thought it was a great mystery in itself

The Five is the best one for me

midsomermurderess · 05/03/2022 19:22

I think they are very efficient, formulaic and efficient. And that's not necessarily a bad thing when the mood suits

FrenchyQ · 05/03/2022 22:51

I just finished 'the innocent'. I quite liked it.

XelaM · 13/03/2022 00:58

Wow "The Five" is definitely the best one. Have just seen it on Sky. It's brilliant. Superb acting from the whole cast and it keeps you guessing till the very end!

Meanwhile, I thought "Innocent" was a too convoluted and had lots of gore just for the sake of it, so was not really pleasant viewing. Also, I guessed who had done it, but I didn't think the explanation made much sense. Not much made sense.

Just watched "The Woods" and didn't like it. The conclusion is nonsensical and it's very slow-paced. One to avoid.
