Wild at heart. An oldie but a goodie.

Soubriquet · 02/03/2022 18:44

Sorry, forgot to say it’s on Amazon prime

I've just started watching a place to call home on Sky drama on demand, I will have to crack on with it though as there are 6 series and it is only there until 28th March. Only first 2 series are free on Amazon Prime, it seems good, thanks to those who recommended it.

I think it's all free on the Drama app (UKtvplay). If not, Prime has it free for a few months then charges for a while then it's free again, you just have to keep an eye out.

Thanks, I just looked and unfortunately it looks the same as the Sky one just a different platform, I always check the expiry dates now if I can as I got caught out with rewatching Dexter when it all disappeared. I will see how far I get and also look out on Prime, there is a chance if I download it onto the SkyBox it may stay there.

Can I also recommend The Good Wife which is on Alibi and quite an easy watch, (expires 30th June) which I am also watching, its probably another one that will come and go on Prime as I see some of The Good Fight (follow on series) is on there

I love a bit of vintage escapism. I loved CTM and also loved All Creatures Great and Small (new version), David Tenant’s Phileas Fogg, Joan Hickson version of Miss Marple, David Suchet version of Poirot, and Endeavour.

All 6 series are available on UkTVPlay (the Drama app) without expiry that I can see. It does have ads but that's better than not seeing it. Are you not in the UK?

Rosehugger · 03/03/2022 15:32

I was coming to say The Gilded Age. Foyle's War is very good, there are dozens of those to keep you busy. Also Magpie Murders on BritBox by the same author. The original Darling Buds of May can usually be found somewhere.

Also I never watched it at the time, but The Royal may have a similar feel to it to CTM.

Rosehugger · 03/03/2022 15:37

Also Jeeves and Wooster was another Sunday evening must-watch for me as a teenager.

Rosehugger · 03/03/2022 15:39

Oh The House of Elliott! I'll have to rewatch that. Was a bit young for it really the first time round.

Grantchester

All of Poldark is on Netflix, I loved that!

Yes I think I will try the app, I am in the UK, and I don't mind the ads too much, I can MN while they are on😀
StarbucksSmarterSister · 03/03/2022 16:49

It's worth it, it's a fabulous programme, really deserved a prime time showing, I have no idea why the BBC showed it in the afternoon.

deplorabelle · 09/03/2022 21:59

If you don't mind subtitles State of Happiness on iPlayer was wonderful. Set in 1969 in Stavanger, it's about the discovery of North Sea oil and has a really engaging cast. Period feel, serious subject but quite light too with lots of human interest.

About half of it is in English as it also focuses on the American companies who were there, and all the Norwegians talk to the oilmen in English.

Just popping back to say that I have finished all six seasons of A Place to Call Home and it was fantastic, I feel a bit of a loss now so will now look at some of the other recommendations on this thread

XelaM · 15/03/2022 11:06

Parenthood (on Prime). Best feel-good TV ever

BrieAndChilli · 15/03/2022 11:20

The Gilded Age

TenoringBehind · 16/03/2022 17:01

I’m watching A Place Called Home on the strength of this thread and loving it. It’s absolute nonsense but very enjoyable nonsense!

Sluj · 16/03/2022 17:28

A place to call home is one of those rare series that sucks you in. Evocative of the time and curiously addictive Smile

CPL593H · 16/03/2022 17:32

The Durrells. Father Brown (all eps on BBC iPlayer) Heartbeat, think it's all up on Britbox.

Ellmau · 16/03/2022 19:34

Not sure what's available where but:

Peak Practice
Heartbeat
Doc Martin

Maybes
Father Brown
All Creaturs Great And Small
Foyle's War
Home Front

The Good Doctor on Sky is amazing. It’s about an Autistic intern played by Freddie Highmore. He is fantastic in the part. It’s funny and sometimes sad but so heartwarming.

MrsArchchancellorRidcully · 16/03/2022 22:43

I'm really enjoying the Guilded Age on Sky Atlantic. It's by Julian Fellows.

MooChops89 · 25/03/2022 13:21

There was an Aussie prog similar to CTM a few years ago called Love Child, set in the 60s then 70s at a maternity hospital
