I wondered if anyone else has been watching this? I’ve just finished it and thought it was really good.
It’s an 8-part Danish series.
I won’t do spoilers, but the premise is that a 14-year-old girl writes an essay at school describing how her stepfather hits her, and a concerned teacher brings in social services. So the series follows that investigation, who is telling the truth, what is going on in the family, etc. The young actress in particular was very good I thought.

I just came on here to see if anyone else watching! I’m on episode 4 and enjoying it. Am really interested to see how it pans out.
I agree, the actress playing Holly is really good.

KedgeIsland · 01/02/2022 09:56

Damn, you’ve now given me an earworm of one of A-ha’s sillier songs.

MrsBerthaRochester · 01/02/2022 16:39

Oh I was swithering whether to start watching this or Trauma(also a Walter presents)
Just finished watching Outlier (norwegian serial killer drama) which was good but was a bit disappointed in the ending.

refraction · 01/02/2022 17:21

Is it subtitles or dubbed?

JemimaTab · 01/02/2022 17:26

Subtitles.

Thanks. I don't mind but have to be in the mood to watch subtitles. Thats for the recommendation.

I finished it today. Astounded, once again, by the quality of Danish produced TV series.

For those who might be considering watching this, a major character is played by the fabulous Bjarne Henriksen - the father of the murdered teenager in Forbrydelsen - The Killing series 1.

JemimaTab · 01/02/2022 22:30

Ah, I thought I recognised him!
He’s very good in Cry Wolf too.

thank you for this recommendation - I love a good danish series.

has anyone ever watched Rider of the Storm - I found that unbelievable ... and for lighter entertainment Seaside Hotel (both Danish on CH 4)

JemimaTab · 01/02/2022 23:19

“The Investigation” is also excellent - probably my favourite series of last year. It’s also Danish, and is a dramatisation of a true life investigation (into the so-called “submarine killing”). It was originally on BBC2 and I think it’s still on iPlayer. It was incredible, so moving. And unlike a lot of true life dramas, it never showed the murderer at all - in fact I don’t think they even named him (so didn’t give him the oxygen of publicity). Instead it was all about the investigation itself - which was incredibly complex and difficult - and the victim and her family.

Agree the Holly actress is astonishingly good and I'm on Ep 3 but it seems to have the same leisurely pace of the 4 part series dragged out by longueurs/time fillers that currently plagues many recent dramas, IMHO.

sunshineclouds24 · 02/02/2022 22:10

Yes also agree re actress playing Holly and also agree it's a leisurely pace with 8 episodes. It's better then most programmes I've watched recently.

MrsBerthaRochester · 03/02/2022 01:10

I just finished this and it was very very close to home for me. I was the child with an abusive stepdad. Social services said I was "jealous"

Having had social services involvement very recently as an adult I find the heroic but flawed social worker very hard to swallow.
Good series but very cliched. Real life is not solved so simply.

SeasonFinale · 03/02/2022 01:21

It was really good.

ouch321 · 03/02/2022 01:37

No but I'm going to watch it based on your +ve review.

sunshineclouds24 · 05/02/2022 22:23

I really recommend (as I've now finished it) but at times it's a hard watch due to the issues. The quality of the acting is astounding.

ouch321 · 05/02/2022 22:29

I watched it as promised and it was indeed good.

fefifum · 15/02/2022 19:36

Cry Wolf is my favourite Walter Presents, so far. Adore actor Bjarne Henriksen, but every character is brilliant. Goes into my Top Ten TV drama series of all time

Xmasbaby11 · 15/02/2022 19:40

Yes I'm halfway through and love it. Slow but the acting is so good.

Also loved the Investigation and that it focused on the procedure not the killer. So happy there are loads of scandi series around! The quality is generally so good.

Outlier was very good too and I liked the ending.

fefifum · 16/02/2022 10:21

The characters certainly enjoyed their ciggies

sunshinesupermum · 16/02/2022 10:27

I loved it - very good and clever series. Nordic and Danish series often are. Now watching Chloe on BBC iplayer - also different and very good.

This was truly excellent. And yes, they deliberately do not show or name the killer. If you google, there are interviews with the director/writer (can't remember which) discussing this. So interesting. It was so dignified and respectful, and yet managed to be a crackingly tense and involving drama as well. A tour de force. Sorry for slight derail. Thanks for the reminder about Cry Wolf; I loved Borgen and it's the same writer, I think.
JemimaTab · 16/02/2022 18:30

(Another little detail about The Investigation - the writers worked closely with the victim’s parents, and the parents’ dog played himself!)

Indeed Smile And didn't they work with the real police chief (who had since retired) too?
Fudgemonkeys · 21/02/2022 21:05

I love Walter Presents programmes but agree this is very sensitive one. Social workers have such a difficult job, I do not envy anyone having to make such hard decisions. Not finished it yet, can't make up my mind if Holly is lying 🤔
