Is anyone going to be watching? I absolutely love it despite only ever having one go at throwing a pot at school, forgetting to take my foot off the pedal and watching as the clay shot off the wheel into the adjoining open-plan science area. Looking forward to the new host too as I felt the last one made it a bit like a vehicle for her stand-up comedy routine.

The dance clock had slumped though.

SoupDragon · 09/01/2022 20:55

Zarha to go by the sound of it.

SoupDragon · 09/01/2022 20:57

She was on borrowed time after last week I think

LavenderAskew · 09/01/2022 21:02

I thought the paintbox looked OK until the next few where in the wall. Loved the robot and rock around the clock. The tent would be to my taste but I can see why it won.

Saucery · 09/01/2022 21:03

Not really a close run thing with all the problems she had this week and didn’t stand out last week.
They are all miles better than I was at pottery though!

Saucery · 09/01/2022 21:04

The tent was a bit simple imo and didn’t look as much like canvas as the robot looked like worn metal iyswim.

SoupDragon · 09/01/2022 21:08

I don't understand why they didn't mention the robot during the judging scene.

lollipoprainbow · 09/01/2022 22:00

Really like Ellie Taylor as a presenter she'd be great on the sewing bee.

CorpusCallosum · 09/01/2022 22:12

@tsmainsqueeze

Bake off with clay , i love it . Mmmmm Richard , so gentle and lovely hands .
I'm sure it's his hands on the credits. I have such a crush on him 😍
WobblyLondoner · 09/01/2022 22:29

I'm sure they are Richard's hands - it's from the first series when he was doing the firing etc role. Gorgeous hands!

Piggywaspushed · 10/01/2022 18:27

Just watched one catch up. Isn't Cellan so lovely and kind? I loved AJs slug...

Toddlerteaplease · 10/01/2022 21:00

@Joystir59 i absolutely appreciate the talent. But urgh. The crying really grates.

SoupDragon · 11/01/2022 07:42

God forbid anyone shows uncontrollable emotion about a subject they care about deeply.

Saucery · 11/01/2022 10:39

I hope none of you are near me when I hear a brass band or a beautiful piece of flute music. I cry floods. Don’t get me started on Lord Of The Dance (the song, not the stage show).

I think it’s great to see a man capable of producing exquisite pottery still moved by the process and the creations of others. Don’t forget the judges have a lot of interaction with the participants. He doesn’t just walk up to the finished product and start crying. He’s seen their efforts.

Piggywaspushed · 11/01/2022 14:13

A fact I have just learned from a book : in Regency England, men cried all the time and everywhere.

It was not at all derided. Even though they were also off fighting and duelling.

A celebrated speech in parliament, in fact, is where the expression 'not a dry eye in the House' comes from.

LavenderAskew · 11/01/2022 16:00

It's evidently an emotional response rather than his being emotional.

Even he laughs at it but it shows a true passion for the art.

Innocenta · 11/01/2022 16:49

Just saw the mention earlier in the thread of season one being filmed at a difficult time for Keith - I don't know any of the background to the show (though have watched it all during the pandemic!) and wondering if anyone could just fill me in on this? I don't mean to be invasive, only asking for anything that may be common knowledge.

SoupDragon · 11/01/2022 17:06

play.acast.com/s/we-ve-made-it/keithbrymerjonesfromthegreatpotterythrowdown

This is the podcast I listened to. If says it covers how pottery "helped him through some difficult times" although I can't remember the details now.

Innocenta · 11/01/2022 17:15

Thanks, @SoupDragon Smile

SoupDragon · 11/01/2022 17:32

Keith's interview was really interesting. By far the best bit of the podcast.

I didn't really get on with the podcast and haven't listened to it for ages.

Wolfcub · 16/01/2022 19:43

Evening all. Are we all ready for more pottery fun ?

Piggywaspushed · 16/01/2022 19:57

I'm here!

I would have absolutely nothing interesting about my town... flytipping perhaps? An incinerator?

SoupDragon · 16/01/2022 19:58

Yeah... I'm in Croydon 🤔 The flyover maybe...?

Wolfcub · 16/01/2022 20:01

Not sure dark satanic mills would make good pots either

Poshjock · 16/01/2022 20:03

I'm in a belt of mining communities. We have a lot of coal mining art installations. I'd be going with a winding wheel most likely.

If I could do a damn thing with clay...

Obviously Wink
