Interview with John Cleese 😬

Just saw some of it on the BBC Newsday programme on BBC News Channel.
I’m aware John Cleese seems to have grumpy advancing age man syndrome and this is a long standing thing with him. But it was a cringe fest for me watching that, I felt sorry for the interviewer. I wouldn’t exactly call it a hard hitting, no holds barred barrage of inappropriate questions. Alongside asking about his tour she was asking him things about cancel culture for example which he has spoken about many times before. As far as I can tell he was just annoyed that the whole time wasn’t spent publicising his latest tour. But surely you don’t do a BBC interview expecting to solely talk about your latest money making ventures? And not only that but only answering questions which you deem suitable and even complaining about a question about touring in a pandemic which I would think is standard fare in these times.
As for his comment that the BBC need to retrain her, how bloody patronising is that.

Apparently the BBC hadn’t aired the interview prior to John tweeting about it. Maybe he had the news on 24/7 waiting for it to appear and it hadn’t so it’s entirely possible he was thinking no publicity is bad publicity let’s give this a whirl.

I used to like watching re-runs of Fawlty Towers but not anymore now I know more about him. I’ve had a guts full of miserable sods like him moaning about anything and everything. Is his life really that awful?

The trouble is he purports to be a comedian but every time i’ve heard about him in the past few years he is complaining about something. I don’t remember him actually making any jokes or even smiling for that matter. I think he is tarnishing his back catalogue by being so unnecessarily combative in interviews. Maybe he would be better booking a slot on QVC if they’d have him, that way he can do the hard sell and only talk about what he wants to talk about.

Anyway I think he came across badly and I wouldn’t pay to see him but I expect there are enough people out there who still will which is what he’s banking on.

I don't like him as a person, but nothing like that would stop me watching Fawlty Towers!

I think him talking about about Cancel culture is brilliant, barely any people DO have the courage to speak out. I am not really a fan of John Cleese but I would take him over any of the idiots that fall over themselves to be ultrawoke at the expense of women and children.

Plus Money Python is brilliant. And Fawlty Towers. Even with its ridiculous "these views are outdated" trigger warning for the giant snowflakes .

OP I totally agree. He wants to be an unfettered mysogynist and misanthrope and get away with it and he's hitched his bandwagon to the 'cancel culture' train so that it sounds like a just cause. In reality he's just a nasty old man.
