Our Girl Thread 62 "Our Girl, Soldier Soldier and The Musketeers Revisited"

We started to follow "Our Girl" back in 2014 and although there will be no further series, we do revisit from time to time. We have watched all seven series of "Soldier Soldier" to keep up our military terminology and are now on the final series of "The Musketeers". Of course, there is a definite connection between "Our Girl" and "The Musketeers" in the delightful form of Luke Pasqualino. In the New Year, we plan to go back and watch series 2 of Our Girl.

I can’t bear to watch

Ilovelblue · 12/01/2022 21:56

I think Treville has gone to meet his Maker.

Poor Treville loyal to the end

eejittwo · 12/01/2022 21:56

This is nearly as upsetting as something which happened in Kabul

Magi84 · 12/01/2022 21:57

Very dramatic ending there

Ilovelblue · 12/01/2022 21:57

Oh gosh, I did like Treville.

So next week sees it all wrapped up?

A sad end for Treville, who died in the loyal service of the King.

Melanie Kilburn is the name of that actress from Soldier, Soldier. Just saw it come up on the credits. Now wasn't she the wife of the actor playing Lorraine - one of the Glenister brothers? He was called Ian in S.S.

Rhubarb01 · 12/01/2022 22:01

Incidentally, I watched all of "The Tourist" with Maisie in it, and I really enjoyed it, lots of black humour and very quirky.

Ilovelblue · 12/01/2022 22:01

Yes, I recognise the name of Melanie Kilburn but can't recall who Ian was. Was he a sergeant? He wasn't quite one of the lads with Tucker and Garvey, was he?

Must be Tobert, cos it ain’t Philip

eejittwo · 12/01/2022 22:02

Robert FFS

Ilovelblue · 12/01/2022 22:03

Yes, just checked - it was Robert Glenister and he played Colour Sergeant Ian Anderson.

And final connection Harki Bhambra who played Rab is about to turn up in the new series of The Good Karma Hospital - one of the most, literally, colourful shows on TV. It's easy watch telly, and looks so lovely too.

Magi84 · 12/01/2022 22:04

Yes ilove he was a Colour Sergeant in the very first series I think

eejittwo · 12/01/2022 22:04

I think that poor kid did get therapy - retail therapy. Think of the dosh spent on Versailles

Rhubarb01 · 12/01/2022 22:05

Ian was the sergeant who ended up being made an officer at the end and the lads all carried him to the Officer's mess and then chucked him in. He had stuided Russian or something like that.

Ilovelblue · 12/01/2022 22:05

I saw the trailer for that Rhu last night and recognised Rab.

Ha, ha eejit that is very true Grin

Ilovelblue · 12/01/2022 22:15

Haha eejit. I've been to Versailles twice and the most recent time was after one of the terrorist attacks in Paris, can't remember what year but I think it was the one on a Jewish synagogue. There were soldiers marching up and down right next to the queues waiting to go in and it was quite intimidating. The first time I was at school so it was only on the second visit that it hit home just how opulent Versailles was. It was also full of Japanese tourists getting in everyone's way with their selfie sticks photographing anything and everything.

The French are like that - they had squaddies/ police with heavy duty guns - European equivalent of Kalashnikovs, don’t ask me what they are called - strolling through airports long before the UK did, and for no apparent reason either, pre terror attacks.
