I'm full of cold and want to lie under a blanket watching something that makes me laugh. Help me please.

Loved League of Gentlemen, Physcoville, Hunderby, Mandy etc. Don't mind dark but must make me laugh.

TIA.

I must see cuckoo - is that funny?

More infuriating than funny, but, each to their own.

Nighty Night was good if 'Mandy' is to your taste comedically speaking.

Two Pints of Lager and a packet of crisps (first few series, anyway)
Red Dwarf (again, first few series anyway)
Happiness (a bit niche but good anyway, it has Paul Whitehouse in it)
Green Wing (good if you like surreal comedy)
Bottom
Still Game
Black Books

AgnesNaismith · 20/10/2021 22:22

All I love have been mentioned but from your OP, what we do in the shadows and ghosts are the same kind of funny.

If you need proper comfort, no dark, I agree this country and the detectorists have to be the ones!

Gross early 00s funny - drifters

Super funny - Friday night dinner

ToffeeNotCoffee · 20/10/2021 22:24

Two Broke Girls

&!%! my Dad says (starring William Shatner in a comedy role)

mumofthemonsters808 · 20/10/2021 22:34

Another vote for Almas Not Normal on I-Player, still makes me laugh just thinking about it. I don’t have much of a sense of humour, it really made me laugh, I loved it.

DoctorTwo · 20/10/2021 22:41

If you like dark comedy and by dark I mean dark I recommend Jam, a glorious sketch show by Chris Morris. Scenes include suicide by instalments, a bloke who throws himself out of a first floor window a number of times, and The Cleaner, a young girl who shows up to cover up an accidental death.

Did I mention that it's dark?

LoveFall · 20/10/2021 22:44

I confess that DH and I watched a few episodes of Keeping up Appearances last week. We both had a good laugh.

I love the scenes where the big shaggy dog barks at Hyacinth when she walks by the car. And the poor oppressed Elizabeth with the hand-painted periwinkle china.

Donutsrock · 20/10/2021 22:52

Stath Lets Flats is on All 4, 2 series worth ahead of a new series released next week. Brilliantly written and acted.

Does Sex Education count as comedy? Some brilliant moments in that and always makes me feel good.

Gizmo98765 · 20/10/2021 22:54

Motherland
Schitts Creek
No Offence
Grace and Frankie
Sex Education and also have funny bits in Offspring

youvegottenminuteslynn · 20/10/2021 23:13

Ghosts
Nighty Night
Curb your Enthusiasm
Seinfeld
Frasier

And Back to Life (still on iPlayer I think) was so good, I was surprised it isn't more widely known.

BigSandyBalls2015 · 21/10/2021 06:40

I’ve just started watching back to life. Discovered it this week. So good.

AtlasPine · 21/10/2021 06:54

This Country was so funny, brilliantly acted.

Also loved Schitts Creek which I ended up binge watching during a particularly difficult lockdown few weeks. I think it saved my sanity. I love comedies where you end up really loving the characters. I was so invested! Each character developed throughout the series, so it wasn’t just a repetition of the same gag a la Frank Spencer, Are you being served, Father Ted and all those earlier sitcoms.

Brooklyn 99 is pacy and has a funny line a minute. Again, the characters are so flawed but so likeable. It’s a feel good comedy and good god we need them now.

Ghosts - again, likeable characters. That is such a key ingredient I think if you need lifting. Very lightweight but sometimes that’s what you need.

Friday Night Dinner is spoilt for me by Jim - I just can’t warm to him. He never develops as a character. Love the dynamic within the family though.

Looking forward to watching some of these recommendations myself - thank you for starting this thread OP!

Dinnerladies. Victoria Wood was a genius.

MalteserGeezee · 21/10/2021 08:59

Not sure where you'd find it, but Nighty Night (shown years ago on BBC) was hilarious and dark, starred Angus Deayton

MalteserGeezee · 21/10/2021 09:02

It's on iPlayer: www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b0074cd6

Laquila · 21/10/2021 09:08

Dinnerladies. Victoria Wood was a genius.
So true! I researched it recently and there are some absolutely incredible one-liners in it.

I also loved Crashing, which is set in a disused hospital full of squatters. I think it was on Netflix.

Laquila · 21/10/2021 09:08

Researched = rewatched 😁

LunaFortuna · 21/10/2021 12:54

Schmigadoon! Not dark at all and helps if you like musicals.

Carolinechanning · 21/10/2021 12:59

2 broke girls (as my username suggests) if you go on amazon prime and search for it, you can watch it for free as part of imdb tv. There are adverts though.

TheMagiciansNiece · 21/10/2021 13:06

Gone Fishing with Mortimer and Whitehouse. Had me in tears of laughter at times.

Second Would I Lie to You and the IT Crowd.

Only Fools and Horses and Porridge are old but funny.

shreddednips · 21/10/2021 13:08

Saw Ghosts recently and absolutely loved it, had to give it a couple of episodes to get into the groove.

Schitts creek is funny and very comforting

Motherland

Catastrophe

Hope you feel better soon!

SenecaFallsRedux · 21/10/2021 13:27

Frazier
Golden Girls

Both of these US sitcoms have aged well and are still very funny.
