The song was wrangled into waltz time, so the singer was fine, but it would sound wrong to anyone familiar with the original version.
Here's an example of the timing wangling (for after the show).

I've heard the one so many times the sounds odd to me now!

What the hell have they done to this song?
The reason they have a live band is so they can slow down the music if the Celeb is struggling. They adjust it right up till the last rehearsal.

So if the song sounds ‘murdered’, it’s because the celeb is shit! And it’s a bloody amazing singer who can constantly adjust their tempo.
