Anyone else watching?

Oooh I was very excited because I found a bag of sprouts in my freezer earlier! But never mind that - what is it about and on what channel??

Wingedharpy · 09/10/2021 23:04

I watched it.
Not sure what I thought - I'm still in shock I think.
I love a period drama, but it was no Downton Abbey!
I never knew France had a President who met his end in the manner depicted.
Some very grim scenes.

Peregrina · 09/10/2021 23:20

Yes, watching, not sure what to make of it yet, but it's quite grisly.

PanicBuyingSprouts · 10/10/2021 08:40

It definitely wasn't like Downton was it? Thought it was a bit more like Peaky Blinders?

Was wondering about this … Any similarity to Peaky Blinders is interesting.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 11/10/2021 13:55

Never seen Peaky Blinders. I saw the first two episodes shortly after finishing Ridley Road and the overt horrific antisemitism portrayed in both has left me quite low, thinking how little has changed. It's not a series for the faint-hearted. Very gory and violent in parts. We are planning to stick with it.

ThomasHardyPerennial · 16/10/2021 22:06

It reminds me a bit of Casualty 1900, that was a really gripping series. I just watched the second episode, and am very confused. Feel like I need to do some homework to understand it all! I love the costumes.

Halsall · 17/10/2021 21:15

DH and I are really enjoying this, but boy - it's certainly dark.

1moreglassplease · 21/10/2021 15:03

I've really loved this. Yes it's dark and sometimes it makes for uncomfortable (and gruesome) viewing, but it treats the audience like intelligent adults and I really wish that something like this would be produced by the UK (but won't hold my breath). I've recommended this to a lot of people.

Daisypod · 25/10/2021 12:39

What's it on please? Sounds intriguing

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 25/10/2021 12:51

BBC4, @Daisypod. Not sure if it's available to binge watch, but I assume all episodes to date are on iplayer. It's subtitled.

IntermittentParps · 26/10/2021 19:00

I loved Ripper Street and Babylon Berlin; is it at all like either of those?

PanicBuyingSprouts · 26/10/2021 19:47

I've not seen Babylon Berlin but it's a bit more gory than Ripper Street.

OP posts:
IntermittentParps · 27/10/2021 09:02

More gory than Ripper Street Shock Cripes, I thought RS was pretty bloody!
Babylon Berlin is great, BTW; I'd recommend it. Not really gory but grimy, in that 1930s Weimar, grime-under-the-glitter sort of way.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 31/10/2021 06:20

Seen the whole thing now. We thought it was excellent but didn't feel we'd entirely followed the plot. A sequel set in 1905 goes out in France early next year so I hope we'll get it too at some point.

thekillingtimestv.wordpress.com/2021/10/30/review-paris-police-1900-s1-e78-8/ Review of last two episodes. Explains some of what was going on.

Halsall · 01/11/2021 13:25

We felt we’d kept up reasonably well but tbh that last episode had either DH or me looking at the other at various points and asking helplessly ‘what just happened there?’ Confused Still not entirely sure we grasped every nuance (and we’re both fairly clued up on the era, Dreyfus, etc etc).

I can’t find anywhere online that really analyses all the episodes; if anyone else can, I’d love to know.

ToffeeNotCoffee · 01/11/2021 13:35

Watched Ripper Street which was excellent. Didn't watch Peaky Blinders.

I wondered if Paris Police 1900 was the next in the genre.
