Ridley Road on BBC 1 starts Sunday 9pm.
Drama set in the 60s.

Ridley Road follows the fight of Jewish British people in a post-world war II London against rising Neo-Nazism.

@samG76

At least Colin Jordan's lot were quite open that they when they attacked "Zionists" it was a code for attacking Jews. Sally Rooney's supporters could learn from this....
She is a vile specimen - wish u hadn’t watched Normal People now, but at least I have never bought one of her books.

What an ending, I loved that last scene. I've enjoyed this so much.

DoctorTwo · 24/10/2021 22:32

That last episode was a difficult watch. Shocked that Jordan only got 9 months though, nowadays hopefully he'd rot in jail.

I thought this was excellent and so brilliantly acted. Rory Kinnear was chilling.

LadyEloise1 · 25/10/2021 10:33

It was really good, so tense at times.
You did have to suspend disbelief at times though. I know historically much of it was true was true but how much of the Vivienne / Jack story was true or was it padding around the history ?
Is it based on an autobiography?
She changed her name to go to Israel. Why ? Fear of reprisals?
Saying goodbye to her family - Why was it like a life sentence ?
A lovely ending but not sure real life has such happy endings after such turmoil.

Clawdy · 25/10/2021 12:05

I really wanted that happy ending, so much grim stuff on at the moment. Saying goodbye to her family was sad because she knew she would probably not see them again. The rather unbelievable bit for me was her leaping around the roof with that suitcase and successfully escaping! Especially in quite high heels!

Peregrina · 25/10/2021 17:23

I couldn't see why she couldn't go to Israel under her own name either.

I was pleased the way her landlady turned out - potentially could have been anti-Jewish, if she'd ever really stopped to think about it, but told the right winger to shove off.

LadyEloise1 · 25/10/2021 17:56

Did she have to name change so the fascists couldn't get to her ?

I've just realised I know the director of Ridley Road ( in an Irish way - a friend of a friend of a friend).

Thisisunpleasant · 25/10/2021 18:01

I loved it. I know the writer of the book it was based on. She's a really good friend of mine.

LadyEloise1 · 25/10/2021 18:15

Is it autobiographical or semi autobiographical @Thisisunpleasant ?

Thisisunpleasant · 25/10/2021 18:23

It's neither - it's inspired by true events

Clawdy · 25/10/2021 22:43

I thought Vivien and her family were fictitious, and that Colin Jordan in real life didn't have a little son?

MyOtherProfile · 25/10/2021 22:49

I thought she had to change her name as like witness protection. Hence why she wouldn't see her family for a long time.

I'm sure I read that V and J were fictitious too. But not Colin, of course.
