Had Netflix , Prime , Apple TV , BT Sports Disney plus, Sky with movies and kids on it, costs an absolute bomb, how do people pay for all this?

Seem like someone’s pulling my leg, any ideas anyone? Costs like £100 to watch tv and that’s even including tv license!

Is there an alternative to not paying all this subscription?

Well the obvious solution would be to cancel some of them Grin

We have Netflix, Prime and a TV licence. I had Disney+ for a while but I cancelled it after I'd caught up with all the Marvel and Pixar stuff I'd missed. (I have Apple TV as well but that's free because I bought a new MacBook for work a few months back. I never use it so I'm cancelling it when the free sub is up.)

Sky is pricey, and anything with 'sports' or 'movies' on the end is very expensive, IMO.

Luckily we're not a sports-watching household so we save money by not having any of the packages.

But if you can do without sports and movies you'll probably save a ton.

mrsjg · 24/09/2021 15:04

I have Sky inc movie and sport, Amazon prime, Netflix and Disney plus.

Sky contract renews in December and am going to cancel movies. The Netflix is staying cause it's part of the sky package. I'll keep prime because of the fast delivery, the TV is an added bonus. Disney can stay too as I like the content on it.

I agree it's expensive but I'm willing to pay for it.

Oh and I have Apple TV too, but it was a freebie for getting a phone and I'll cancel when the trial is up. I don't think I've even watched anything on it!

WormYourHonour · 24/09/2021 15:06

No license.
Netflix
Disney
Prime
YouTube

And all the usual catch-up services like ITV, channel 5, channel 4 etc.

MoChridhe · 24/09/2021 15:09

I have sky without movies or sports, Netflix, prime, starz play, apple, Disney.

I was planning to keep just sky , Netflix and prime however Outlander is moving to starz play, so will hang on.

womaninatightspot · 24/09/2021 15:23

I have a tv licence, amazon prime yearly as I buy stuff a lot. Only have netflix/ disney plus or Now for a month whilst I watch a couple of series, then I cancel. Disney during the holidays for the kids.

Cocolapew · 24/09/2021 15:25

Tv licence, Netflix and Now that I pay for.
Amazon and Disney plus that DD1 pays for.
Occasionally will get Starzplay if there's something I want to see on it.

CommanderBurnham · 24/09/2021 15:39

Do them on rotation. We've just cancelled Netflix as we've watched everything. Will look at now tv next.

You can also share subs.

WhoWants2Know · 24/09/2021 15:42

How can you share subs? I thought that wasn't allowed?

BakeOffRewatch · 24/09/2021 21:44

Yeah we only have one a month, there’s no way we’d get value from having loads at same time. They all have good cancellation windows.

BakeOffRewatch · 24/09/2021 21:45

Always do Now TV films over Christmas but not at any other time! And yeah catch up tv. Don’t normally have tv licence either but got one for the football this year.

Floralnomad · 24/09/2021 21:49

We have the full sky package including sports and movies , BT sport , DAZN , Disney + , Britbox , Netflix and prime . The only things I’d willingly let go of is the movies and Disney but other people in the house use them . We share Disney , prime , Netflix and BT sport with my sister .

User45829057 · 24/09/2021 21:52

TV licence, Netflix, Apple TV, Sky including movies, Prime, BritBox, I'm retired though so have a lot of time.

TheUnquestionedAnswer · 25/09/2021 07:49

I've got tv licence so watch I-player. Netflix but shared. Prime. Now TV I got just for Your Honor and am going to cancel. It's 9.99 a month and I think it's pants. You have to pay extra for movies, and the first of a series has adverts. I did have Sky but cancelled the TV ages ago and went wireless. I did connect to Freeview via the Ariel but hated the cable going across the floor so now just watch it all through the internet. I do miss having Sky for the ease of watching everything in one place but again, I didn't want the wires being unsightly. Watching via the internet is a pain if you want to watch live tv as it's always a few minutes behind real time, by the time you log in; select whether you want to watch from start etc. Oh and I pay for ITVhub 3.99 a month as cannot stand the adverts, and ALL4 you can't watch live from a Samsung tv! I've never been able to find a subscription to watch without adverts.

trumpisagit · 25/09/2021 08:06

I have just cancelled Disney Plus. I have promised to renew it when series 2 of Mandalorian comes out.
We have Prime, Netflix and TV license.
I am considering phoning virgin to see much Sports TV would be extra on top of broadband.
I am also considering cancelling Prime, to stop me buying stuff from Amazon.

HevLTown · 25/09/2021 21:10

Thank you everyone for your responses, certainly an obvious one would be to reduce the amount of what I’m watching , but I have a family of folk who want everything haha!

I’ve decided to go for a private streaming network (VPN) called nowplex where I can watch anything i pay £23 a month and it’s an app through the firestick, recommend by a guy on Facebook I know,

It’s got everything on it, literally everything sky sports BT sport Netflix Amazon prime , Apple TV , DAZN , all sky channels , it’s got a TV guide for all the freeview channels too it’s ace just looks like sky.

Works fine didn’t trust it at first but wow, it’s insane.

Has anyone ever heard of anything like this?

PileOfBooks · 25/09/2021 21:18

I didnt think they were legal...

WormYourHonour · 25/09/2021 21:19

Has anyone ever heard of anything like this?

Some guy on Facebook....

That should tell you it's not exactly legit...

HevLTown · 26/09/2021 02:09

Legal or not I’m not sure but it’s awesome and I don’t pay £100 a month anymore

OP posts:
HevLTown · 26/09/2021 02:13

Well can’t complain tbh, obviously a lot of people must do this, it’s ridiculous how much it all is.

Netflix, prime (play Hayu add on) and Disney, almost cancelled Disney after first year but am watching loads of old crime shows on it now.

southeastdweller · 26/09/2021 19:25

I have Netflix as I think the quality of TV and films is generally really good. Also Disney + free for six months as o2 messed up the cancellation date when I cancelled it so gave me six months free to compensate. The Golden Girls is on there and it’s joy to rewatch it after all these years.

My favourite is NowTV because of the superb TV shows (Sex and the City, Ray Donovan, Mare of Easttown to name a few). If you tell them you’re thinking of leaving, they give you six months half price.

Just bought a new iPhone so have three months free of Apple TV and The Morning Show intrigues me but I don’t have time to watch that and everything else!

catfunk · 26/09/2021 22:13

Pay for Netflix (shared with family so cheaper) prime and now tv but always on offer so max couple of quid a month.
Have Apple TV with work phone but never use jr tbh.

JaninaDuszejko · 27/09/2021 11:00

We have a TV licence and just use the free streaming services. That's more than enough TV.

PileOfBooks · 27/09/2021 12:22

How do you get netflix and prime on offer!?

We're paying full price at the moment!

HalzTangz · 27/09/2021 17:38

I just subscribe to netflix but also watch iPlayer, itv hub and other free streaming services
