I think that is probably true and that Liberty is more clever and also more emotionally mature than he is and that’s where the mismatch is/was.

I think that's the problem. He isn't bright enough to pull off the game, but he thought he was. Certain things he did definitely indicate attempts at game playing. He'd definitely done his research and seen what worked in the past, he just couldn't pull it off.
