It's in 3 parts. It was on Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday

I watched it. I think there were two separate issues though. The racism / police behaviour /petroleum bomb attacks plus the fire. I know people think it was a racist attack but they had no proof either way.

TableNiner · 25/07/2021 10:30

I think if the fire happened now they would know how it started, both because of better forensic techniques but also because of more enlightened attitudes. As it is we will never know and this is a very sad story really well told in the documentary.

Orf1abc · 25/07/2021 10:37

I know people think it was a racist attack but they had no proof either way.

They didn't look for proof. The police were so fixated on there having been a fight at the party, and persuading witnesses to go along with that line, that they ignored other lines of investigation. The finding of the second inquest was never going to change because they could only go on evidence from the original investigation.

It was a very well made program, and gave a real insight into why many people of colour have such mistrust of the police.

RevolvingPivot · 25/07/2021 11:18

It was truly awful. Getting stopped up to 3 times a day just for walking down the street.

I wonder if the black guy is still in the police. I wonder how many changes if any he's seen.

EssentialHummus · 25/07/2021 11:33

It was absolutely fascinating and so well made.

I live near by. I go past that house regularly, my kid plays in the park where the NF rally started, friends do activities at the places that were subject to those arson attacks... it really opened my eyes to the (quite recent) history of the area.

It's now a hugely mixed neighbourhood - absolute poverty right up against new student residences, hipster coffee shops and shiny tower blocks. I'd like to see a further documentary made about what life is like now for someone growing up in the area who is black.

AbsolutelyPatsy · 25/07/2021 11:34

agree, it wasnt that long ago but the attitudes were so different to how they are today, thank goodness, making monkey noises down the phone to the black policeman

And now they "just" do it to black footballers?

Attitudes haven't changed anywhere near enough.

AbsolutelyPatsy · 25/07/2021 14:10

i was not aware of that @JohnnyLuLus

what scum
at least the NF are still hated!
