it's boring as all hell

Aero · 25/11/2007 21:22

I'm with Carmenere. It's excellent. Touching and very funny.

zippitippitoes · 25/11/2007 21:24

a mn schism

seeker · 25/11/2007 21:25

I thought it was brilliant. The book's as dull as ditchwater though!

Tnog · 25/11/2007 21:25

I remember reading the book when I was about 14 and loving it, but I can only watch these adaptations on Christmas day when I'm half-cut and very sleepy.

southeastastra · 25/11/2007 21:29

i would prefer something set in space really

I'm not paying attention to the dialogue at all, but I'm agog at the cast they've managed to assemble.

tissy · 25/11/2007 21:57

2 deaths in 5 mins!

LydiaTheTattooedLapin · 25/11/2007 21:58

Bastards, now I am in tears

And my friend's little boy was just hospitalised with croup, now I am petrified!

Carmenere · 25/11/2007 22:00

I cried too, but that may be because I am chronically hungover after a stupidly long and late night out last night

SheepishPeachesMcLean · 25/11/2007 22:10

Ditto Carmenere, in every respect. Why did it seem like a good idea at the time???

Cranford's brilliant by the way.

JackieNo · 25/11/2007 22:11

I cried too. No excuse, just me being my usual soppy self.

frogs · 25/11/2007 22:16

Cranford is brilliant. And the book is good too, though rather confusingly they've cut it with material from other works of hers for the TV series. Still great though.

Mrs Gaskell is a great author, actually -- I don't understand why everyone raves about Jane Austen but ignores Mrs G.

ArcticRoll · 25/11/2007 22:20

Disagree.
Fantastic cast.
Enjoyable Sunday night fodder.
Like eating a box of soft centred chocolates; nothing too challenging.

purpleturtle · 25/11/2007 22:25

I think it's great. Although wasn't expecting to be reduced to tears tonight .
(Have no idea about the books, but agree it's a bit of fun for Sunday evenings - at least I thought it was )

It's also not done by Andrew Davies, what a refreshing change. It's been adapted by the woman who wrote Lilies (which didn't appeal) and I think she has done a fabulous job. I've not read Cranford, so didn't see young Walter's death coming and was in floods of tears.
We let the dcs watch the repeated bit with Puss and the boot and the lace and they were LOLing too. Ds now thinks Imelda Staunton is the world's greatest actress - from Dolores Umbridge to Miss Pole

Marina · 26/11/2007 09:23

They have, haven't they frogs? Another novel and a novella. My recollection from seeing a much earlier BBC adaptation is that much of Lady Ludlow's life and experience is not from Cranford.

christywhisty · 26/11/2007 11:49

I love it and surprisingly my DS 12 is enjoying as well. The actors are excellent and the characters are wonderful.

seeker · 26/11/2007 22:42

We watched the afternoon repeat on Sunday and dd (11) loved it. I get the feeling that the next one might not be suitable for children - am I right?
