Family comedy series - what next?

For over a year me, DH and DS who’s nearly 13 have been wading through complete series of Friends, Big Bang Theory, How I met your Mother (not so suitable), Brooklyn 99 and we’ve got a few episodes of Modern Family left. I love this time with DS every night, it’s only 45 minutes or so but I don’t want to lose it. Any suggestions for what next please? We have Sky, Netflix, Disney+ and a cupboard full of DVDs.

My kids like Mitchell and Webb too. There's lots of gifs and memes they recognise that are in the sketches ("Are we the baddies?" "Numberwang")

Flippinfab40 · 04/07/2021 09:43

My 14 year old and I have enjoyed all of these:
Ghosts
Life in Pieces
Parks and Recreation
Arrested Development (1st couple of series much better than later ones)

The Middle.

buckleten · 04/07/2021 09:44

We love outnumbered, Miranda, Father Ted, Friday Night Dinner, Not Going Out and Fawlty Towers.

laselvar · 04/07/2021 09:44

My DS loved Graham Linehan at that age - Father Ted, IT Crowd and Black Books.

Just remembered - Sorry I've Got No Head. No idea where you could watch it, but it was utterly brilliant. A comedy series made for children but so funny - especially the sketches with the kid who is the only only in school. Sports day and being accused of cheating on a test are very funny.

PurpleMustang · 04/07/2021 09:47

I'll add Stranger Things and Young Sheldon, Umbrella Academy and 24 also Designated Survivor

Simplelobsterhat · 04/07/2021 09:52

My 11 yo dd and I also love to sit down and watch a comedy when her little brother has gone to bed, so watching with interest for replies. Her favourites so far are Ghosts and Fawlty Towers. Currently watching Father Ted which is going down well. Outnumbered also went down well for a couple of episodes then disappeared from iplayer- must check if it is back.

Young Sheldon (about sheldon from Big Bang). Community was silly but good and not too grown up. I used to love scrubs as a teenager. I haven't watched it but my teenage cousins are obsessed with Stranger Things.

Chickoletta · 04/07/2021 10:05

Definitely Ghosts and Friday Night Dinner. I’m a secondary teacher and the kids at school have enjoyed these, especially the boys. Lots of online profile pictures changed to Jim and Wilson, Martin etc during remote learning!

SprayedWithDettol · 04/07/2021 10:07

Fr Ted
Friday Night Dinner
IT crowd

ElderMillennial · 04/07/2021 10:12

Yes Young Sheldon as well

I haven't suggested any British shows as the ones you mentioned are all American

I watch all of the shows you mention and Superstore has that same easy watch vibe to it

wanderedlonelyasacloud · 04/07/2021 10:18

Lots of ones I was thinking of have already been suggested but just to add them anyway!:

Life in pieces (amazon prime, similar to modern family)
My family (bbc iplayer)
The goldbergs (all4)
Stranger things (although they might be a bit young tbh, it's on netflix)
Young Sheldon (spin off of big bang)
Sweet tooth (netflix)
The 100 (think this is on all4)
His Dark Materials (bbc)

billybullshitterz1n · 04/07/2021 10:19

Kim's Convenience on Netflix

TheTurn0fTheScrew · 04/07/2021 10:38

Not a sitcom, but my teens love Taskmaster on All4

Agadorsparticus · 04/07/2021 10:43

I've watched with my 13yo:

Umbrella academy
Schitts creek
Parks and recreation
Brooklyn 99
The good place

We're currently watching New Girl.

ElderMillennial · 04/07/2021 10:56

Kind Convenience

His Dark Materials is good

GiantToadstool · 04/07/2021 11:07

As an ex ethics teacher I loved The Good Place.

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 04/07/2021 11:08

The Good Place is fantastic.

MartyHart · 04/07/2021 11:13

Life in Pieces is really good, better than Modern Family (which I also love) imo.

Cocolapew · 04/07/2021 11:19

Atypical on Netflix is wonderful.
Schitts Creek
Scrubs on All4

Nicnic91 · 04/07/2021 11:22

Parks and Rec
The Good Place
30 Rock

Comedycook · 04/07/2021 11:22

King Gary
Ghosts
Superstore

CoffeeWithCheese · 04/07/2021 11:24

Ghosts like other people have said.

I'd also insist that watching Father Ted and Red Dwarf and Blackadder should be made compulsory to get half of the random quotes that pop into conversation in our family. Our poor uni lecturer was really devastated that most of the students on my course didn't get the "small and far away" joke he put in a powerpoint at one point the other year.

ButYouJustPointedToAIIOfMe · 04/07/2021 11:28

Prime - Life in pieces, is closest to Modern Family vibe
Netflix - Kim's Convenience '' ''

Enjoy!
