ER Re-runs - Dr Green Dies, saddest TV moment ever?

Watched this first time about 5 years ago when DD was a baby, remember sobbing then (with DH who never cries at anything on TV). Just watched it again thinking that I had over-hyped the memory but the soggy tissues show that it was as sad as ever - talk of writing letters to his daughers to open on their wedding day, etc. Now need to go and pick up DD and DS1 from school looking like a wreck!

Very, very sad. I always think ER is class...good acting; great storylines and scripts and only occasionally smaltzcy (sp?) American endings. I've been a fan since the beginning.

Colonel Blake dying in MASH for me. I did not see it coming...

I have just finished bawling over this, it was beautifully done. Dr Greene has been the man of my dreams this pregnancy, so I don't know who's going to take his place. That version of "Over the Rainbow" by that Hawaiian singer (I think he's dead now) - it was fantastic.

ER Always makes me cry. Every episode.
But the saddest ever for me was in GREEN WING when MAC just goes off on his motorbike and fades from the screen. anybody see it?

Blandmum · 22/11/2007 15:31

and he died in Top gun as well. So unlucky, that man!

dh has done the letters thing for our two. It is horrible. Gut wrenching doesn't begin to cover it

CantSleepWontSleep · 22/11/2007 15:31

I missed a couple of seasons of ER along the way when life got busy, so don't think I've ever seen this episode.

Cried when he died in Top Gun though .

CantSleepWontSleep · 22/11/2007 15:32

Oh mb . I don't even want to imagine how hard that must be.

Notyummy · 22/11/2007 15:41

mb. TV is sad but forgettable. You are living it and I can't begin to imagine how it feels.

JonesTheSteam · 22/11/2007 16:46

Oh god - I remember bawling at this as well.

Anthony Edward's parents stayed at DH's parents B&B about 20 (ish) years ago. They were very nice apparently and extremely proud of their son!!

DANCESwithHughJackman · 22/11/2007 16:50

It was sooooo sad.
The episode of coldfeet where James Nesbitt's character finally realises Helen Baxendale's character really has died was even worse. I could hardly breathe I was crying so much.

Mb

Moomin · 22/11/2007 16:50

mb - gutwrenching is right . But your dcs will treasure them for the rest of their lives. I wish my mum had had time to leave me something. I think any memories dh can organise in a physical sense for them will be so so very precious and important for them all - and you as well.

Macdog · 22/11/2007 17:14

I have the episode on tape, but watched it again and cried buckets!
Version of Over the Rainbow here

NorthernLurker · 22/11/2007 17:21

yep I can lose weight watching that I cry so much.....the other one that really really gets me is in series 6 when a family are involved in an accident. Kids ok, mum and dad both die, little boy wants to see them and goes in and hugs his mum - I can't watch it tbh. As others have said though - its just tv - my respect for those living this kind of situation knows no bounds - my prayers are with you.

Mummyofthreebeauties · 23/11/2007 10:56

Thank you so much for the link to the song -made me cry again, and happy at the same time!

I think it is the thought of this happening to you and your family that makes it so upsetting, so can't imagine if you have or are experiencing it for real .

Cold Feet was another sad one and don't get me started on Truly, Madly, Deeply, still got that one on tape.
