i truly can't. i'm seeing my GP on tuesday for a referral to a psychiatrist because i'm only 8 weeks into my pregnancy and already my depression is back.

Saturn74 · 18/11/2007 22:44

I saw it a few weeks ago.
Truly shocking, and very, very sad.

Expat - I hope you get your depression treated asap. Is your GP helpful?

expatinscotland · 18/11/2007 22:46

i don't know. it's a new surgery. but DH says he's extremely helpful, and so do our landlords.

he knows about my ante and post natal depression.

i gave permission for the surgery to acess my records.

Saturn74 · 18/11/2007 22:47

That sounds hopeful.
Sending you lots of positive vibes, and hope you feel better soon.

expatinscotland · 18/11/2007 22:50

thanks, i do, too.

brimfull · 18/11/2007 22:59

expat- my friend's depression through her pregnancy was helped a lot by taking essential fatty acids.
Sorry if you already know and have tried this.Hope you get some relief.

expatinscotland · 18/11/2007 23:06

i've tried that and omega 3s, exercise, my SAD lamp, fresh air, etc.

i have a serious problem with ante and post natal depression that has required extensive drug treatment twice now.

just hope i can get going now because this isn't going well at all.

expatinscotland · 18/11/2007 23:06

thanks, though

TwoIfBySea · 18/11/2007 23:38

I'm sorry to hear that expat, I hope everything goes okay. My thoughts and wishes are with you.

I managed to get through the whole programme without tears, until that little boy at the very end who grabs at the hand reaching out to him and clings to her. Very powerful image, utterly heartbreaking.

Can't believe that the director is still in a job. And they aren't allowing charities in - says a lot about the attitude of the government. My MEP put a question to them regarding this after I wrote to him, it can take up to 6 months for a reply! The wheels of democracy, eh?

i watched half of it. have never felt physically sick through watching tv - this did it though. i felt a mix of sad and angry. someone has to help these kids, but how?? very unsettling.

Expat - good luck getting the help you need. try to think of it as a good thing that you recognise it so early. We've talked about this before, u and me, havent we? You really helped me a few weeks ago just by telling me you'd been there. As you may remember i'm still trying to get sorted after pnd #3. Aren't we the lucky ones getting it all three times -NOT! try to resist the urge to go hiding, you're a strong 'un and you know it.
(((hugs)))

I also watched last night...the programme is very harrowing...and deeply, deeply upsetting. Who would have thought that children were being forced to experience 'Belsen like' conditions in 2007?..and right under our noses in the European Union?! I feel a desperate need to do something to help, and so have signed a petition to 10 Downing Street and volunteered my skills as mother to help. You can do the same by checking out this website: www.tbact.org
I'm not one for preaching about charities and causes, but this has really given me a wake up call. I hugged my 11 month old for a really, really long time this morning. Just so grateful that he was a healthy, happy little boy, with a bright future ahead of him...but also thinking about all those other little babies in Bulgaria in desperate need of love and a simple cuddle. I hope you will help!

i watched it also, that last seen was awful with the little blind boy having a tiny touch of the hand and reaching out for a cuddle like that, very upsetting.

I was shocked that these kids are dying and the "nurses" couldnt even see it. The one who looked at that poor little boy in the cot, with think stick limbs and said "he doesnt look sick to me", i was literally ranting at the t.v. The "nurses" were all very overweight and obviously eat well so how they couldnt see the malnutrition astounded me.

And the way they were fed! borders on force feeding, how the poor mites could swallow the food with the speed it was being shoved in, i was waiting for one little one to choke

Bet the "bedridden" girl and the little blind boy Stovey are dead now.

That director needs stringing up

brandy7 · 19/11/2007 12:43

theyve got 3,419 signatures on the petition, if you didnt watch it, please sign the petition anyway as these poor kids really do need help

DrNortherner · 19/11/2007 12:57

I watched it and sobbed and sobbed. The images will haount me forever.

Have signed the petetion and sent email offering help.

I urge everyone else to do the same.

TwoIfBySea · 19/11/2007 17:14

brandy7 that was a comment I had made when it was first shown on BBC4 - the staff certainly didn't look like they were made to eat slop! God knows what was in that muck they were feeding the children and the way they attacked each other for it proves how hungry they must be.

Most of the staff were quite rotund, yet they dealt with children who were spindle thin. That in itself is sickening. On earlier threads it was mentioned that someone donated toys and books to a hospital and the staff stole them all.

Anyone else wish they could board the next flight and bring home one of those kids?

DrNortherner · 19/11/2007 17:23

Don't know if this has been linked to o this thread. It's the website of the journalist who made the doc. She has set up a charity you can donate to and offer your services to help in a professional capacity or simply as a mum who can offer hugs to these poor kids

Pannacotta · 19/11/2007 21:14

Agree with you all - it was so very harrowing to watch and I really wanted to scoop up all the children and bring them home, esp the poor little blind boy at the end of the programme.
Have signed the on-line petition and will donate to the website.
Can't quite believe this goes on in an EU country, it has really shocked and saddened me. I couldn't sleep last night I was so upset.
It is truly shocking to see a modern day documentary of children dying from neglect
