Cbeebies has just been mentioned on points of view for 2 very good reasons-

  1. Conning our kids with repeats of LAST years Autumnwatch

and 2) admitting showing Monster cafe was a mistake as it is too scary for the little ones

(actually, my complaint with Monster cafe is it is sh*t, and very very old, rather than scary. But they have taken it off the schedules, so hurrah!)

I agree it was total rubbish and it was far to scary for little ones. Then again if my ds isnt scared by my face first thing in the morning then nothing will!!!!Must admit i do love the autumn watch tune.Sad or what.

bea · 19/11/2007 09:11

hoorah!!!!

but what did cbeebies asy about the repeated autumnwatch?

Raahh · 19/11/2007 19:52

they didn't really apologise, re autumn watch, they moaned about lack of money or something, and that autumnwatchcosts £800,000, and they only have a budget of £6 million!!

there is so little in the way of nature progs for kids now- and kids really do love autumnwatch. i hope they don't repeat springwatch too

what's so shocking about repeating autumnwatch? isn't it a year since our LOs saw it? (i didn't watch myselft so hav eno idea, just wondering!)

ds is a wussy 4.5 year old and was very scared of monster cafe. glad it's gone.

dd666 · 19/11/2007 19:56

i saw the ad and telly went off before monster cafe came on so have not watched it, and i think some of there other new ones have been dug out of the arcives too suppose they using the 3r's lol (reuse, reduce recycle)

TheQueenOfQuotes · 19/11/2007 21:14

oh dear how soon until they're taking it off?? - DS2 won't be happy on Saturday morning if it's not on.....he loves Monster Cafe

purpleflower · 19/11/2007 21:17

I remember monster cafe from when I was small!

oooggs · 19/11/2007 21:19

hurrah no more Monster cafe but what about axing Model Millie and that Pirate thing as well please

Flame · 19/11/2007 22:33

DD loved it. It was bridging the gap for the ones not quite old enough for cbbc

pinkteddy · 19/11/2007 22:34

Think on cbeebies website they said they are moving monster cafe to CBBC.

Flame · 19/11/2007 22:36

ooh will go look

pinkteddy · 19/11/2007 22:37

On the grown ups bit, I should have said!

Flame · 19/11/2007 22:41

I didn't realise it went at the weekend - I changed channel for DD and left her to it (neglectful terrible mother etc), and she told me that it wasn't on, but it was still on the virgin tv guide so I assumed she was talking gibberish

Flame · 19/11/2007 22:46

I got my wrists slapped on the adult bit and my posts deleted ages ago They never used to have the "don't discuss the presenter's private lives" bit, and I asked how old people thought Sue was because I couldn't place an age on her

Biiiiiiiiiig no no apparently!

ProfYaffle · 20/11/2007 08:00

Some of those 'new' programmes are about 15 years old. I can't believe they're repeating such cr*p they must have a huge archieve of decent programmes or why not repeat some really old classics like The Magic Roundabout or something. At least the parents could enjoy it as well.

Charlee · 20/11/2007 08:22

I used to watch momster cafe when i was only about 3-4! i thought it was pants and not scary at all, i suspect i was just well ard'!

But im glad ita going ti is crap now i don't have to suffer if ds gets into it!

hazeyjane · 20/11/2007 08:26

The whole weekend is bad on cbeebies, my dd's have had appalling colds all weekend, and was in desperate need of TV, but it was all wierd 80's programmes that reminded me of Rentaghost, and that bad bad bad Space Pirates, Oasis-esque rats singing Ruby Tuesday - WTF!!!

Raahh · 20/11/2007 10:43

I had the misfortune of seeing 'model millie' this weekend- where did they get THAT from???

sadly ds has really got into Space pirates- which is annoying in that it is the same episode on both saturday and sunday!!

And i can't stand that insufferable Melvin and Maureen- i agree the whole schedule has a very 'rentaghost' feel to it.

and i don't suppose it does matter that autumn watch is repeated, except that is is a more 'topical' programme, and they show enough repeats as it is. And how much money are they saving by dredging up 80's rubbish?

OP posts:
Flame · 20/11/2007 10:55

What is wrong with a "rentaghost feel" though - I loved rentaghost.

LongMeg · 20/11/2007 11:00

I can see why people feel that Monster Cafe is unsuitable for CBeebies; quite apart from the fact that it's (a) ancient and (b) crap, it was always going to be frightening for a lot of young children.

But. But, but, but.

What are children who are getting too old for CBeebies but who are still too young for most of the programmes on CBBC meant to watch? If the BBC isn't going to produce good programmes for them then who is? They do deserve to have some space in the schedules.

Flame · 20/11/2007 11:12

My point exactly - we are stuck with bloody nick jr and cartoon network

I guess the answer would be for them not to watch tv, but let's not be silly

TigerFeet · 20/11/2007 11:16

Haven't really got a problem with Autumnwatch being repeated but I did when PC Plum started waffling on about how little rain there had been this year

Monster Cafe is shite. I'd rather watch Rentaghost repeats than that utter bilge. Also hate the Pirate thing and Melvin & Maureen.

LongMeg · 20/11/2007 11:25

Not let them watch TV

Dd doesn't watch a lot of TV, but sometimes she just needs to chill, and an hour of TV doesn't hurt. But there's no way she's watching the cartoon network, and Nick Jr would be over my dead body too. So she's stuck with programming which is unsuitable because it's either too young or too old for her. Crap as Monster Cafe and Space Pirates may be, at least they were a nod towards the fact that she exists.

Nbg · 20/11/2007 11:32

Oh wow.

I was sat watching Monster Cafe with dd the other day and thought that it wasn't really appropriate for cbeebies age range.

Autumn watch isnt a problem for us because dd was a nick jnr fan this time last year
They better have a new one next year lol.

Raahh · 20/11/2007 13:48

was having the conversation with dh a while back about at what age ds would outgrow cbeebies. I agree there doesn't seem to be any thing for the 'inbetweenies'- but the 'new ' weekend stuff is just so badly made. What age do other peoples dcs stop watching?

Most of the time he is happy to watch Toy story and Cars on repeat
