Not sure if this will be all episodes, but Series 1, Episodes 1-3 tonight and 4-6 next saturday.

Most mean they have run out of any new scandi noir. And not as though there will be any Spiral to look forward to on saturday evenings.

This was the only Scandi crime drama I actually enjoyed. I was obsessed with Troels Hartmann.

Same! I was totally mesmerised by his cheekbones. The thought that he might be guilty genuinely traumatised me, at which point I had to switch off the telly and remind myself that these weren't actually real people.
LovingBob · 01/05/2021 20:03

It looks like there are 40 episodes on iPlayer, 3 series, it's a bit hard to tell but that must be the whole lot, I haven't seen this so starting it now.

Didn't you like The Bridge?
stumbledin · 01/05/2021 21:44

I think its good that the BBC is reshowing on actual tv, as its worth remembering that no everyone has access to online hubs / iPlayer.

But ......... If they suddently decide to show something new in that slot and dont bother to pick up from where they stopped if would be very, very mean.

Just watched the first three episodes. Obviously once you know, you know. But still bloody loved it. Watched it with my husband who didn't watch it first time found.

Not especially. I watched the first series and it was fine, but found the ending to be a bit overblown.

Grin

Splendid cheekbones! And I loved the chemistry between him and Sarah.

IcedPurple · 01/05/2021 23:07

Yeah, Lund had way better chemisty with Troels than with her nice but boring Swedish boyfriend. Mind you, a box of corn flakes would probably have chemistry with Troels.

Watching it all again, it's so interesting how happy and carefree Lund seems in the opening scenes, with her new life ahead of her. I guess on some level she never really wanted to go to Sweden, and the case gave her an excuse to stay. And the little scene in the car where her son chastises her for her inability to remember the name of his precious ice hockey team. Says so much about their relationship.

I saw recently, though I can't remember where that BBC4 was going to be showing classics and loved shows or something like that so no new content by the look of it so that is probably why it is being shown so it would most likely be in its entirety of 40 episodes. I don't know where newer Scandi noir will be shown though - maybe BBC2??

stumbledin · 02/05/2021 14:58

I think there aren't any new Scandi Noir so BBC is filling the traditional saturday night slot with re-runs.

But also think this is good for people who cant access catch up services.

It could also be that it seems that All4 has bought up nearly every foreign crime thriller series!

The Beeb itself has put out this news. BBC4 is becoming an archive channel, so definitely no new commissioning. I don't know if it means no new content at all or literally just nothing they have to make themselves.

I agree with stumbledin, it seems to me that C4/Walter Presents have cornered the market in subtitled drama. Maybe the Beeb has decided it's not worth trying to compete.
As a bit of an aside, I'm gutted about no new commissioning on BBC4. I love things like Neil Brand's music shows and Mark Kermode's cinema things. I hope at least some of that carries on on BBC2 rather than just disappearing, but the Beeb say it's a cost-cutting measure, so I do fear the worst Sad

I think the 'Scandi Noir' thing has kind of run its course. Really there were only a handful of shows that were outstanding - The Killing, The Bridge, the Millenium series - and there hasn't been much since then. I've seen a few Scandinavian crime shows hyped on Netflix or Walter Presents, but very often they're just average, and would be instantly recognised as such if they were in English rather than Swedish and set in Manchester rather than Malmo.
stumbledin · 02/05/2021 20:28

Its strange about the BBC making their channel 4 the archive channel when at the same time they have found money to re-start BBC3.

Or is that just about trying to show they are still relevant to young people?

Troels was lovely.

Menschenskind · 04/05/2021 09:48

I decided to watch it again and it's worth it. Love Lund, Troels is indeed mesmerisingly lovely, and the acting of the parents very moving.

I also like the actor who plays Meyer, Lund's sidekick. He's a very familiar face now, being cast in most Scandi series.
