I'd like a History Bit every week. I was very pleased to see the return of Amber (and her headbands).

I did think "gentlemen's classics" was a poor description for the last programme though. For that I'd say it should have been something like a dress shirt with multiple tucks (Pattern Challenge), a child's summer outfit from up to three striped shirts (Alteration Challenge), and an 'everyday' waistcoat with three pockets (Made-to-measure Challenge).

I couldn't work out what Serena's top would actually look like on a person, I couldn't tell what was going on at the sides (apart from the underarm pocket of course). I thought you'd be flashing your knickers in Raph's, although the judges didn't mention that. Of course on Esme it would probably be a midi. Grin

I love the camaraderie they all have on both shows

This is what I love Soup - they seem to genuinely want to help each other out, explaining bits of pattern etc. The kindness and support they give one another is lovely.

I often wonder what the general opinion was regarding that Bake Off contestant who (and I can't remember details) either damaged someone else's offering, or took credit for someone else's, thus getting herself higher in the rating than she deserved.

There were Strong Words on here IIRC.

(She should be ASHAMED even now, many years later. I don't know how she sleeps at night. MONSTER)

It's really interesting, isn't it?

This is Amber's programme if you haven't seen it. I wish they'd repeat it.

@SchadenfreudePersonified - was she The Custard Thief?

Mydogisagentleman · 02/05/2021 09:23

The right person went this week.
I am in the minority who like Damian.
I think Serena will win (or Raef) and Esme and Joe will come to my house for a dog walk and BBQ

SoupDragon · 02/05/2021 09:44

Serena and Rafe are my top picks to win too. I'm not sure who my other finalist is at the moment though. Those two seem consistent so far.

Hopdathelf · 02/05/2021 10:46

I suspect it’s a bit like Bake Off and each contestant has to do a challenge under competition conditions to check they are filmable. No good if every second word has to be bleeped or they can’t engage with the presenter and experts because they’re a blithering wreck.

Did she not leave within the week, actually leave rather than being judged out? And the guy who's pudding she removed from the freezer had a tantrum and chucked it in the bin, so he was judged out on the night? I felt sorry for her, I don't think she meant to deliberately scupper someone's chances. And he deserved to go because of the way he reacted. But I could be thinking of a different contestant to you
PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 02/05/2021 11:46

Two different events — the custard was mix-up, somebody took somebody else's (very good) custard from the fridge and used it in her trifle, so he had to use hers (not so good).

The ice cream was for a Baked Alaska, and the man whose ice cream it was had a bit of a strop.

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 02/05/2021 11:47

Monkseal recaps for The Custard Incident and The Ice Cream Disaster.

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 02/05/2021 11:54

Oh, thanks for the video link Schaden. I've watched the first one and it was great! I really enjoyed seeing them making the outfit. I'd never have the patience to do those buttonholes.

SchadenfreudePersonified · 02/05/2021 12:46

It was a brilliant programme Polkadots - my favourite was when they recreated the dress from "The Arnolfini Marriage", but they were all fascinating - the Black Prince's tunic (I think it was his) that they recreated was also amazing.

Love how they used old techiniques of dying the cloth etc as well as sewing.

They're well worth a watch - I wish they'd do more. The lady who made the costumes up (with her team of seamstresses) was so skilled!

SchadenfreudePersonified · 02/05/2021 12:47

@PolkadotsAndMoonbeams

Thank you - I love a dramatic interlude!
SchadenfreudePersonified · 02/05/2021 12:55

Those links were a joy Polkadots

I'd forgotten how much I miss Monkseal.

PickAChew · 05/05/2021 20:30

Bumping this in readiness.

dillite · 05/05/2021 20:46

Is anyone watching the repair shop? That bunny lamp is MAGNIFICENT!!!

Yes! Amazing!

Piggywaspushed · 05/05/2021 20:50

I had several MUCH smaller versions of those as a child. They were so lovely. It brought it all back to me.

I don't think they exist any more. Fire hazard I expect.

dillite · 05/05/2021 20:55

Do you remember who made them @piggywash?
