My Boy Jack tonight - I've already cried about this twice now and I haven't even watched it yet...

... have been reading articles about it in the papers this weekend and it sounds unbearably sad.

Will be interesting to see Daniel Radcliffe - don't really rate him as an actor much, so will look and see whether he does a good job here.

DR was very good. There is an interview with him talking about the role of Jack here, on Parky.

I would laugh my ass of if she won a bafta, one in the eye for that snarky Sarah jessica Parker.

I thought it was excellent. Hats off to David Haig too, the actor who played Kipling. He wrote the original stage play after having the idea some years ago.
Despite its beautiful gardens and sunny location in East Sussex, Batemans is a deeply sad place to visit IMO. It is dark and oppressive.

God, yes I was crying too.

Brilliantly acted.

CAM · 12/11/2007 14:10

It was extremely moving, I thought the girl who played DR's sister was really good

SmartArse · 12/11/2007 14:16

I've taped it and hope to get round to seeing it this evening. Do you think it's suitable for my DDs (13 and 10)?

Threadworm · 12/11/2007 14:17

I was furious when an ad break cut harshly and abruptly into the moving scene of the troops going over the top. On Remembrance Day, too. What a foul world we live in.

CAM · 12/11/2007 14:19

SmartArse, your call, but I know my 10 year old dd would find it far too upsetting.

I thought it was amazing how the camera showed 'shortsightedness' - so many of my friends laugh at me 'being blind' without my glasses & I thought this programme showed how insecure you feel without your glasses

SmartArse · 12/11/2007 14:25

Thanks, CAM. Might restrict it to DD1 then.

Marina · 12/11/2007 14:26

Ds had spotted this and was angling to watch it because of DR. I agree with CAM, you see John's death in flashback and it is utterly devastating.

mobileslostisitinthefreezer · 12/11/2007 21:05

Smart Arse, my dd (age 13) watched it and was really moved, so I would let your dd1 see it.

tiredemma · 13/11/2007 10:02

I thought that this was a fantastic programme. I cried buckets.

bossybritches · 15/11/2007 08:51

I was bawling geven before he went off to war!

Mind you I weep at the remembrance prayers EVERY year - "let them not grow old..."etc
