Family with 4 genius kids, weird TV prog from about 15 years ago anyone remember?!

Anyone remember this show? A British family... mother (who clearly wore the trousers) and father who had 4 kids with genius IQs. Each had their own talent... The family prized education over all else. Grades somehow arrived in envelopes which they brought in to their lounge on a silver platter. They lived in a detached house in I seem to think, Lincolnshire, that had CCTV all around it... Remember feeling it was all very off and sometimes wonder what happened to those children... Google hasn't helped... Anyone?

I think what always stood out to be from those Child Genius programmes on what happens to them when they become adults and are just clever adults. Some of them appeared to be aware of that ahead of them and fairly well adjusted to the idea, but I can imagine for others it must have been a real identity crisis if they'd be led to believe that being the cleverest person in the room was what they had to offer to the world.
First term of first year at Cambridge was a complex one from a mental health point of view for me.

On the one hand - it was absolutely glorious to be surrounded by people who were just like me for the first time in my life. No more being weird!

In the other hand - being clever was such a huge part of my identity. And then it turned out I wasn’t. I was ordinary. Maybe not even good enough to be ordinary. Below ordinary.

The education results stated on LinkedIn are very average.

VERY average - I did better than that and I don't consider myself anywhere near being a genius.

No they dropped out because their previous children spoke out about them. It was quite surreal seeing my mother for the first time in years on tv!

Apologies for the old thread revival, I was doing some googling and came across this and thought I’d join and answer any queries the OP may have.

I’m Alex btw. ☺️

I hope you and your siblings are doing ok Flowers

I went to that secondary school and left year 2002
Those results would have been amongst worst I the year for a level
I got 4A at A level. People with 5A at a level didn't even make the paper - people my year got 6&7 A at A level

Those results are shit for that school

Sorry for reviving this thread, my friend sent it to me! I was in a relationship with Ciaran (one of the 4 siblings) about 6 years ago for around 2 years.
He really was a extremely clever but completely lacked normal people skills and turned out to be an extemely volatile, abusive and manipulative person. His parents were honestly a bit odd, could never put my finger on it. His 3 siblings were lovely, completely different to him!
I think his whole life purpose comes from how clever he is - he never cared about anything else. Also he’s had an awful lot of long term (a year ++) relationships (3 before me and 3 after me that I know of), but somehow he made everyone else feel like they were the problem!

I think we spoke a few years back on Facebook (or you did with my sister). I’ve had some communication with them over the years but not him specifically. They did seem lovely and I felt for them being put in the spotlight like that, it could be expected for some level of personality disorder to arise later in life due to their upbringing and for others to have bore the grunt of that like yourself. I’m sorry you had a negative experience and I hope you have healed. If you need to reach out, then my inbox is open:

What a terribly sad thread. How awful for those poor children - both the first families and the second. I hope that they are free to live normal lives now.

I always felt dreadfully sorry for Ruth Lawrence. Interesting to know that he tried to hothouse his first family too.

I can't understand why anyone would want to do that to their children.

Many years later… I still struggle to understand how our mum could just leave us. We knew she had other children but to see them for the first time on the Child Genius programme hurt us deeply and it felt like she had left us all over again. 🥺

I doubt we will ever see our mum again - she chose to leave us with our dad who was more interested in his work and wasn’t the best provider. BUT, at least he stayed 😥
