Walter Presents recommendations

I've loved Walter Presents shows in the past but feel like I'm running out of good things . Have tried All the Sins, which is OK but a bit dull; The Border is a bit macho... etc etc.
I loved Thicker Than Water, Stockholm Requiem, mostly loved The Twelve. Also like BBC4 and C4 things like Rebecka Martinsson.

Anyone got any good recommendations?

Professor T so brilliant, so different
Bad Banks
Before we Die
We really liked Deliver Us and The Twelve if that helps.

IntermittentParps · 12/04/2021 09:12

I saw The Twelve. I did like it, despite finding the way the jury came to their decision maddening and the court proceedings not very believable! I'll try Professor T and Deliver Us, for sure.

Just finished monster, really like the norwegian landscapes. If anyone else has any suggestions similar to Bordertown, ozarks, jdorskott, feel i have ran out of all the good stuff

noblegreenk · 12/04/2021 20:26

The adulterer was very good.

MrsMaizel · 12/04/2021 20:50

We ❤️ Bordertown .

IntermittentParps · 13/04/2021 18:40

Ooh, thanks, Bordertown looks good! I don't really know why I specified Walter Presents but didn't think of Netflix/NowTV etc.

The Mafia only kill in Summer on Walter Presents/All 4 is excellent,
very watchable. Compelling story and lovely scenery.

thekingfisher · 13/04/2021 20:28

Deliver us and DNA I would second as being v worth watching

HelloMist · 14/04/2021 00:33

In a similar vein to some of these there is Danish crime series:

Darkness: Those who kill. (Not just "Those who kill" which I think is a different series). BBC three have recently acquired the second season so keep a look out and they might repeat the first one. Otherwise it's on Amazon.

Also Department Q: I'm waiting for the fourth in the series (films based on books, shown here on BBC as well). Hoping they may show them again but the first is on Amazon quite cheap. (And maybe elsewhere). www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b08n5dsm/episodes/guide

On Walter Presents, I liked New Nurses. Danish too but much lighter, not crime! About male nurses in the 50s. Not sure it would be to your taste but I think worth a try, well acted and interesting. And The Teacher (Polish crime).

I will be trying some of the other recommendations, thanks! Smile

The Blood Pact was enjoyable, with Barry Atsma from the Split. I also liked Nordic Murders and the By The Lake series were diverting enough.

midsomermurderess · 14/04/2021 06:27

I've also enjoyed Black Spot and The Forest (French); Signs (Polish); and Capitani (Luxemburgish) on Netflix.

Billandben444 · 14/04/2021 06:46

Another for all 3 series by the lake (in order helps) and I loved The Other Mother (in French, totally gripping). For something totally different you can't beat a good Montalbano for the scenery alone but it is rather slow!

IntermittentParps · 14/04/2021 10:45

Hello, yes, much as I love a gloomy foreign drama, I do want some light relief sometimes and I definitely fancy New Nurses –but my DP is taking some persuading!

I liked DNA.

Thanks midsomermurderess, I'll check out Capitani, if only because I don't think I've ever watched anything Luxemburgish before!

I don't think The Outlaws is on WP any more Sad Shame as it was very enjoyable viewing. Personally I found Torn crap, the two main characters were so selfish and unlikeable and definitely couldn't pass for 35

SapatSea · 15/04/2021 09:30

Agree about TornDieSchottin93 it was like watching paint dry sometimes. Everyone was horrible, the big plot twist was easy to predict and although the main actors looked good for their RL ages they did not look the much younger 35 they were playing. The scenery and clothes, houses etc were nice.

midsomermurderess · 15/04/2021 14:31

Capitani doesn't do anything new but it has apparently been a huge success, I wonder if not least because it is Luxemburgish. It's interesting to hear the language, and also to find a bit out about their own internal prejudices, the Northerners don't like the Southerners... It's also clearly still very actively Catholic.

workshy44 · 15/04/2021 14:33

Who killed Sara on netflix is v v good. Haven't finished it yet as I am trying to spread it out but one of the best I have seen in a while.

user1471504821 · 16/04/2021 08:30

Before We Die is my favourite one on All4- there are 2 series. I've watched all the Nordic ones on there-plus Belgian, German and Dutch series. I enjoyed Code 37 (has very watchable investigative team), Dichte- Crime Detective, The Adulterer, Thicker than Water, The Truth will Out.

Agree with HelloMist- New Nurses is a lovely gentle watch, bit like Call the Midwife, some good characters.

IntermittentParps · 16/04/2021 09:47

Oh, I really liked Dicte!
midsomermurderess, that's all v interesting about Luxembourg. It's a place I know bugger all about.

Marking place as love a drama with subtitles.

Last one we watched was about a guy who dressed in weird masks and killed people, he had a cellar under his house and was a bit of a genius but I can't for the life of me remember what it was called.

Billandben444 · 16/04/2021 12:31

I love seeing the different ways of life on these programmes and the undercurrents of racism and cultural prejudices that simmer below the surface. The Scandi ones in particular have some amazing homes and lifestyles to drool over. Floodland is available from today on All4 - it looks interesting but might be a bit too gritty for me.

IntermittentParps · 16/04/2021 13:51

Billandben, yes, it's fascinating seeing all the different cultures. Although I sometimes want a primer to help me get the cultural references and context that I'm missing.
Floodland looks ace! I like gritty Grin And the landscape is amazing.

Twinkie01, that sounds good. Let us know if you remember the name!

Twinkie01- think it was Der Pass with the masks? Krampus masks if I remember rightly.

Twinkie01 · 17/04/2021 20:38

Yes Der Pass

Still nothing has eclipsed The Bridge for me. I fell in love with one of the actors who a fellow Mumsnetter went to school with and kindly posted a pic!

Twinkie01 · 17/04/2021 20:38

Rebecca Martinnson is good
