Kids Tv - where is it all at nowadays

Ok I'm going to sound well old and very out of touch asking this one but I need help as I am clueless! I was a 90s kid, tv entertainment was centred around 1-2 channels on terrestrial tv of live and kicking and smtv live, all the kids watched the same show and everyone loved it, mostly, there were so many kid friendly pop bands and magazines that guest stars featured live on set and it was so exciting to see which star might pop up on Saturday morning, this filled a good 2-3 hours for us kids and prob saved mum and Dads sanity for a bit too for a bit of a break. What do kids do now a days on Saturday mornings? I have a young toddler and I want to make sure she is of course doing what other kids her age are doing when she gets a bit older and ready for tv but I was interested In what 5 year olds plus alternative is tv wise to what I had as mentioned about at a similar age... I also remember finishing school and seeing so many shoes like biker grove, count duckula and fun house, art attack and who and they've all gone!!! And that plasterine man named merf it was brilliant! My daughter would have loved all of this, what do kids do now in comparison??!!! 🤷‍♀️

Disney+ I'm afraid.

And shite on kids Netflix

Hamster555 · 19/03/2021 00:14

@pastabest I thought that might be the case! I know the bbc canned the old live shows due to the emergence of all these other options but I do think kids are missing a central live platform show with like famous stars on unless I'm just massively missing the point here! Maybe they get that from Instagram but that's only photos and short video clips last time I checked that out

All Netflix here. I'm pretty sure a lot of the new celebs are youtubers and influencers. My sons a big fan of blippi that I'm pretty sure is only on YouTube.

Hamster555 · 19/03/2021 00:27

@Babyfg Yesh that's a point the whole concept has changed! 90s kids had kid for dog pop stars like spice girls, Peter Andre and boyzone it seems they all just grew up so fast and cheesy good old fashioned fun has now become a lot older looking type bands, only the ones I seem to be aware of anyway again unless I'm missing something but it's all influencers who seem to be a in to less kid cheesy fun stuff. Just want my daughter to have fun and not grow up too fast, it's a lot to get your head around, so much has changed yet it's all so fresh in my mind

Even live shows get paused and rewound Shock

Few weeks ago I put on art attack on YouTube ds1 was amazed. But mostly I just let them watch few select programs on Amazon.

My kids won’t learn the whole concept of making sure you are ready at x o’clock because that is the only time you could watch something. The pandemic has already messed up routine, it would have been nice if a constant was kept, that dc themselves would enforce.

@Cowmilk yes good point. My two mostly watch cbeebies shows but almost all on iPlayer. You have to know the length of the show to the next activity they need to do, bath is at 6:30pm i can put on 3 episodes of Fireman Sam at 6pm, and tell them there's 3 episodes only

Haneggsandchips · 19/03/2021 08:04

Cbeebies. We watch via iplayer, but often make them watch "live" rather than letting them free choose as the schedules help us manage the day's routines / how much is watched - especially in the morning where the end of Hey Duggee means it's time to go to school.
