Does anyone else just find this not funny? I have tried to watch it a few times but just don't get it.

OP posts:
HeddaGarbled · 05/03/2021 21:54

I think it used to be funny but has grown stale.

Blueberrycreampie · 05/03/2021 22:16

Hm. I just wondered if I was missing something as I really don't know what the point of it is?

daffodil10 · 05/03/2021 22:18

It's very political, very anti government, anti establishment.

mynameiscalypso · 05/03/2021 22:19

Agree with this. We used to like it but now it's very boring and I find Adam in particular to be increasingly patronising.
Mrsmorton · 05/03/2021 22:20

Agree with @daffodil10 and it tries so hard to be so.

TuesdayinSeptember · 05/03/2021 22:22

Yes. I used to really enjoy it, but they're all so worthy now. They've become a bunch of insufferable twats tbh.

starlingsintheslipstream · 05/03/2021 22:23

I've laughed quite a bit tonight - though I'll no doubt stop now Nish Kumar has turned up.

mynameiscalypso · 05/03/2021 22:25

I don't really think it's particularly anti-government/anti-establishment unless they have Miriam Margolyes on! Most of the time it's quite try hard without actually saying anything incisive.

Violetparis · 05/03/2021 22:26

Agree, used to like it but Adam Hills is so smug, condescending and preachy now.

senua · 05/03/2021 22:26

It's Top Gear Lite. Three blokes being blokey.
It used to be better than that.

TodaysFishIsTroutALaCreme · 05/03/2021 22:27

Can't be doing with the segments lasting for 5 minutes before the adverts come on

Blueberrycreampie · 05/03/2021 22:37

The thing is I want to like it as there are so few programmes presented by people with disabilities but I do find myself questioning the point of it and I suppose I feel that it could be funny, satirical or...something with a little work. To me it's just regurgitating news we've already heard.

OP posts:
LaurieFairyCake · 05/03/2021 23:03

It's too 'laddish' for me and for all that they think themselves right on it's also sexist at times Sad

sashagabadon · 06/03/2021 09:03

Funnily enough it’s often annoys me but I found last night’s quite joyful and I laughed a fair bit. I find Adam’s “inspirational “ monologues on the lockdown, “ it’s nearly over, keep going, your government is rubbish and you have 120,000 deaths” a bit irritating however as it is just from a lefty point of view and not all of us feel that way. I certainly don’t.
I like Joanna Lumley last night and I have mostly enjoyed their guests especially their female ones. Even Nish Kumar wasn’t too annoying last night, just one mention of his skin colour usually he mentions it at least 10 times!
I enjoyed a couple of weeks ago when they had a male comedian on and were taking about the vaccine and ADam asked him if he would be having it and he said no in a jokey way. This was not the correct last leg proscribed answer and after the break he backtracked- I presume the producers had had a word Grin

JustDanceAddict · 06/03/2021 09:31

I didn’t see it last night but I’m not keen on it. I can’t quite put my finger on why either - maybe it’s Josh Widdicome?

SilverGlitterBaubles · 06/03/2021 09:42

I agree it is very flat for the last few weeks. I think they relied so much on Trump and Brexit for material for years and now they are now a little lost without these being as topical. Last nights show was a bit cringe in places just not funny.

This is true, a lot of lefty shows get their gags from politics so they love Trump and Brexit etc. Now both have left the main stage it’s harder. Interestingly they still had a section on Trump last night and a bit on Boris too. Be interesting to see if they start attacking Biden now?! I’d bet my mortgage they don’t. It’s hard to call the Tories mean when they gave literally just spent billions and billions of pounds and are riding high in the polls.
Blueberrycreampie · 06/03/2021 11:59

In the interests of research I watched a bit of it last night and my thoughts are: What they were actually saying was mildly amusing in a sort of casually, throw it out there sort of way, and if the remarks had been met with smiling, nodding, a bit of a snigger now and then, it would have been fine. But no! Raucous laughter ensued. Guys, it really isn't that funny. Joanna Lumley is a national treasure and has been a real force for change in our country ( The Gurkhas) and is usually at home in any situation. She seemed a little lost last night as if she was saying to herself, wtf am I doing here, I could (should!) be tucked up in bed with a cup of cocoa. Yes @SilverGlitterBaubles you're probably right Trump's departure is a factor. I loved it when Joanna Lumley said she misses Trump's tweets as she looked forward to them. Smile

I used to love it and it was pretty much compulsory viewing in our house. But now it does seem to have gone stale and I end up watching it several days later on Catch Up and I'm not bothered if I forget. I used to enjoy Adam's rants and there were often comments that were pretty close to the bone. As others have said, it feels quite stale now and they keep throwing in pre-recorded sketches that just aren't funny.

UhtredRagnarson · 06/03/2021 17:28

It used to be very good at the start but they became so woke and try hard. I stopped watching a couple of years ago.

notacooldad · 06/03/2021 17:35

I used to quite like it and would tolerate Josh Widdecombe. I don't find him funny at all. The show has lost its way in my opinion.

Chimoia · 06/03/2021 17:48

I thought josh was better than usual last night. I think it's missed having more guests with disabilities on, not sure why that is - presume some of their previous guests with disabilities might be shielding, but presumably not all and not without Zoom? Adam loves himself too much and the team should rein him in sometimes. I have noticed him being more anti uk as he's spent more time in Aus this year and that jarred a bit for me. And yes, too laddy and close to misogynist at times. Still good enough to watch though.

MercyBooth · 06/03/2021 18:09

Last weeks poll on vaccine certificates didnt seem to take into account some people just wont be able to have it. And this is the show that took off off the back of the 2012 British Paralympics.

Just out of interest are there any comedy shows you would consider 'righty'?
I can't imagine I would choose to watch them, but can't actually think of any.

sashagabadon · 07/03/2021 09:08

I prefer comedy to be politics free. I like to watch a panel show without any reference to politics at all. I find it really really annoying to be watching a panel show or a drama and suddenly in an otherwise funny gag there is some reference or sideswipe at Brexiteers for example or a nasty comment about Boris not knowing how many kids he has. It’s in nearly every comedy panel.
But I understand when watching the last leg it is a political show in that it’s origins in the Paralympics and so will make comments pro- disability and have disabled guests on. That is great, but in the last couple of years the gags became more digs at Brexit/ Tories whatever and that gets tiresome but I still occasionally watch and I enjoy it.
There are some very funny righty comics ( I would say more centre really) I like Geoff norcott example. He pokes fun at the liberal left ie. points out the hypocrisy of some of those preaching to the rest of us and ridiculousness of some woke doctrines and have a joke at remainers now and again. That is definitely going against the lefty agenda and is imo refreshing to see. I’d like to see more comedy panels have at least one contributor that can take funny side swipes at say some of the more ridiculous genders for example or people that profess to be all about climate change while private jetting everywhere or laugh at remainers for example to balance it up abit!
And I voted remain but even I can see the comedy is only allowed one way.
